Obx underdrive pulley
Obx underdrive pulley
My first question is ,is it crap?Second question does anyone have 1 on there max?Third does it work? and lastly is it worth trying.

You will not know unless you try it .. I pay $250 for mine ! was it worth it ! no but I got it anyways ! if you pair it with an aluminum flywheel you will see a huge difference and you probably will with just the pulley .. like I said it looks just like mine and even nicer !
Alan I did a search on here and found more than enough threads to support what I already told you. Also there are dyno threads from way back in 04 showing no power gain. Like I said it depends on the person. If you think the money is worth the gain( IE: throttle responce, engine revving faster, etc) then buy it. The only reason I would be putting it on my car would be weight reduction. I'd much rather save my money and buy an EMS, VAFC-II, drag radials, or something you know for a fact will take a big chunk out of your 1/4 mile time and win races. It would be the last mod on my list (which it is).

You might get a whole hp or 2 if your lucky. From the dynos it doesn't look like its worth it
I need to see proof like dynos .etc and when u tune your car u get better throttle response so if u add an underdrive pulley and get more throttle response isnt that better then have the stock pulley and plus the ud is light weight. I think it depends on your performance setup
What are you trying to get out of the pulley when you put it on? Better 1/4 mile times? Better top end? Big HP numbers? Big torque numbers? If all your looking for is throttle responce then get it if you think throttle responce is worth the price of the pulley. If I want better throttle responce I'll clean my throttle body lol.
Lol I want both throttle response and hp ( not saying big hp/tq) but in the 1/4 mile better throttle response results in a better 60 foot. 1 or 2 horses are better then none, but garanteed throttle response is good too, then combined with other things like the tune and ecu it will all be vicious together.
Oh and if i have the UDP and a cleaned throttle body i think it will still help.

Al, AJ is right there have been so many threads on here back and forth about UDP's, almost as much debat as intakes
I have a UR pulley (underdriven) on my 97 5speed, but I have to tell you if I wouldn't have got the deal I did on the UR I bought dont think I would have bought it. I trust UR as a company moreso than OBX. People have been running both for years without issuse and other have. I decide that if I ever bought one it would be a UR and nothing else. There was no way I was going to pay full price though, I found one BRAND NEW for a stupid low price and that I could justify. Now, my thoughts on the pulley is it may help a little (mostly weight saving) but nothing to be noticed in power. It will rev quicker and with my Fidanza Flywheel it moves!, on the down side the RPMs fall just a quick. I dont think I would put on my auto unless for some reason I needed a new pulley or it was my last mod. Lastly, if you are going to by the OBX wait for one to come up cheaper unless you must have it. I think JSutter has on forsale cheap at least he did when I bought something off him a little while ago.

Looks like he may still have it...... Ill paypal you the money for the part your are holding for me and that will be most of the money

Oh ok hmmm well if i find 1 cheaper then i'll probably get 1......and yeah i saw the money in my paypal just let me know when u want to pick it up.

Meh, I have the UR Underdrive one in my car, I don't know if my great throttle response is directly attributed to the pulley, but I have no complaints about how my car responds, and others have complimented on how responsive my engine is... but I can think of better ways $75 can be spent...

the supposed increase in hp and throttle response is mainly due to the pulley being lighter. I have an unorthodox unit and have had ZERO issues with it. There was a member on here (darussian?) who used a no-name one and it ended up tearing a huge hole in his block.
search it out.

I have one and despite what people may say, I find it hard to believe that there is no gain to be had by saving rotating mass and underdriving your alternator and AC. IMO it was well worth the $40 I spent on ebay 3 years ago and with the added reduction in rotating weight of a light weight flywheel my motor was able to build RPM's very quickly.
That being said, OBX is kind of a shtiyy company. They didn't include instructions. So I had to figure out what size belt to use on my own. I did call the company to get the belt size, but they told me do wrap a string around the pullys and measure it. Thanks a lot OBX.
I'm running mine with deleted AC now, but if you need the belt size i think I still have it in the garage.

i say jus save and spend the $$ on an intake, cause you'll prolly get no difference in power (intake or pulley) and an intake AT LEAST adds a cooler sound. With 75 bucks, or whatever money you have, i say save it for exhaust, thats where you get the biggest gains for the $$
real deal tho, to the point of this thread about the OBX under drive pulley, its a nice addition but ajcool does have a point.. It really depends on what your looking for out of it, if you really do want throttle response and horsepower gains then like he said, save it for an EMS, VAFC-II or a 00Vi or MEVI. Honestly tho, i have it on my car and like i said, it performs swell.. well worth 50 bucks..
Does anyone know what the actual difference in the obx and the ur? Some specs and weight would really help. Interested in buying a obx but if it drastically makes a difference I'll go with the ur. I'm running a lightweight flywheel already with a upgraded ecu and cattman headers. I know this is off topic but what do you guys think about the bomz cai
i have the obx blue. much cheaper than the UR unit. it's def smaller cuz it took me FOREVER to figure out wut belt i needed...thanks autobone. and it's more for piece of mind for me since the OEM unit split in 2 pieces. no more rubber to unattach itself during the winter.
since I am a new member and dont have the posts to start my own posting I am going to steal off of this one. Can someone give me the numbers for the belts for the OBX underdrive pulley FYI I needed a new one cause the rubber is coming off and it is out of balance and my belts need to be replaced anyway. plus it is cheaper than stock even with seal and belts if needed. thank you for any help.

So I installed my obx underdrive pulley today and it took me forever to get the bolt out of the crankpulley. I used two different impacts because it was so tuff that i thought maybe mine was going bad. I ended up breaking it loose with a breaker bar with three foot cheater bar on it. Crazy!!! Mine was much lighter than stock. Over four pounds difference. The only real difference is that the gas pedal feels lighter.

When you say "the pedal feels lighter" do you mean it seems more responsive?
ThX
Yes that is excatly what I mean. My stock pulley was cracking and out of balance and did not look safe to use any longer. Overall i am very happy with it. I got the rear crankshaft position sensor code today after driving it to work. I pulled it out cleaned the shavings off(probly from trying to hold the crank in place)and put it back it cleared code and on road again.
i need a little more info from you sir. what seal did you replace? was it the front crank seal? i dont think a seal is needed for only the pulley but dont quote me on that.
Yes this what the how to says.
Step 4 - Replace the front oil seal
The shop manual recommends replacing the front oil seal any time the crank pulley is removed. This may or may not be overkill, but considering that the rubber oil seal is only $6.50 from a Nissan Dealer (part # 13510-31U00) you might as well do it. Simply stick a flat bladed screwdriver in there and pop the oil seal out. Coat the new oil seal with motor oil and pop/tap it back in place. Real easy.
