Rough ride

hey. within a few weeks now it feels like this is getting worse. when I do 20-40 mph the steering wheel shook, when I did 40-60 mph it feels like I have 2 front flat tires and the whole front end fees wabally.
I took it to a garage, they said I was missing a 20lb weight on the passanger side, and my drivers side tie rod needed to be replaced. After doing that, when he put the wheel back on he felt the tire 'giving' side to side. he then told me that the rack and pinion is shot and needs to be replaced. I didnt get it done right then and there.
The car seems a little better, but still shakes slightly. I am going to get a second opionon at another garage

1. has anybody seen these symptoms before? is it the rack and pinion?

2. how long can I go without changing the rack and pinion before the front end ends up on the highway?

3. How come he didnt see the rack and pinion needed to be replaced when changing the tie rod? could it have broke while he was working on it?

with all the front end power...im not surprised to hear about racck and pinion issues, especially if u love burnouts lol.

U can drive like that for as long as u want too. Eventually u will get so pissed off ur steering wheel keeps vibrating while jus driving straight u will want to change it.

It really wont break in the sense that u wont be able to start the car. U jus wont be able to steer the car. U will turn the steering wheel but the wheels wont move.

There was no way of knowing how damaged the rack and pinion was until the tie rods were fixed. They are all attached to each other. Once he knew the tie rods were good, the only thing left to is the rack and pinion.

Prolly 300-400 bucks to replace. More if he needs to drop the tranny to get at it
