is that an easy swap?

That is correct.

Austin, Dallas, San An & Houston are the only ones with emissions requirements. If I lived outside of a big city then I would not have needed to register in KS lol.

theres nothing in the inspection criteria that says you have to have one. the only reason i ever failed people is if they have one thats popped. if its taken out its no biggie. or at least thats how i was taught in dallas n collin county... the wheel looks sick though! great job! love the max overall too! looks almost exactly like my old one! lol

oh and im one for no airbags as well... i flipped my old crx about 20 feet in the air and walked away with a busted lip and a tiny bruise on my shin. i couldnt imagine how i woulda felt with an air bag!

nope, you can inspect it elsewhere. but you just follow your registered counties inspection criteria... <--- once again, thats how i was taught. so im pretty sure thats still applicable. its only been a year.

I bet those 5 accidents were NOT in Maxima's.

People need to keep their opinions on airbags, related to experiences with Nissan airbags, and more specifically MAXIMA'S!

I was hit head on by a drunk driver. My 92' Maxima was 10 years old, with 72,000 miles. The car never left Florida. The airbag was in that steering wheel for 10 years in the Florida heat.

It deployed at the instant it was supposed to. In fact, right as I comprehended I'd been hit(and still spinning), the airbag was already in my lap fully deflated. My brother in the passenger seat had no airbag.

We both walked away from the accident b/c of Nissan crumple zones. Although the airbag didn't hurt me, I am not sitting here today saying I wish there wasn't an airbag that inflated to prevent my face from slamming into the steering wheel. Although I am 5'10'' - I have to sit close enough to fully depress the clutch with my short 30" inseam legs. The airbag did not hurt me one bit, and I think it was good. Perhaps had I been going faster than 45mph I would have needed it more.

A lady in the orthopedist's office had her arm all wrapped up with pins and screws. She had put her hands infront of the airbag and her arm was mangled when it was forced into her face.

If I were to go off the highway at 60+ mph, I want an airbag there....even though I wear my seatbelt.

In this pic you can see the deflated airbag in the steering wheel. RIP 3rd Gen Maxine. Notice the door pillars are completely fine, and both front doors still opened and closed. Everything was absorbed into the engine compartment.

So how much smaller than stock is that wheel? Did you notice any change in steering feel/quickness/effort?

I'll keep my airbag and beat up old steering wheel, thanks.

"From 1990 to 2008, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration identified 175 fatalities caused by air bags. Most of these (104) have been children, while the rest are adults. About 3.3 million air bag deployments have occurred and the agency estimates more than 6,377 lives saved and countless injuries prevented.[36][38]"

Not a fair comparison. It doesnt state whether the lives saved were by using airbags alone or with the aid of the seatbelt. Without the use of a seatbelt the airbag is not as effective.
The seatbelt is the major life saver.
