Another TPS Test Problem

Have searched all over the forum and am stumped. I'm using a Radio Shack digital multimeter. I've tested and verified the 5V power at pin 1. I am able to read .500K Ohms at closed throttle between pins 2 and 3, but can't get above 1.6 - 1.7K Ohms at WOT. Thinking this was indicative of a bad TPS, I swapped it out for a new one to no avail. I'm getting the same readings as the original. The multimeter seems to be acting normally...as I can see the readings sweep up as I open the throttle, but it will max out at 1.7K ohms.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have a CEL for the TPS?
Are you having engine issues?
Is the throttle actually opening all the way?

If your not having any problems, what's your concern?

njmaxseltd...
CEL for TPS?....No.
Engine issues?...No.
WOT?....I assumed that stepping on the gas pedal was how to open the throttle...maybe that's the issue...I'll try to open manually tonight.

I've been having an auto trans shift issue (1st to 2nd shifts at 2-2.5K)...Several posts suggest a possible TPS problem. I realize that solenoids are a possibility, but wanted to try least cost parts first.

Doesn't sound like you have a TPS issue.
Doesn't sounds as if you have anything wrong...
My trans shifts from 1st to 2nd at 2-2.5K under normal acceleration???

2-2.5K is lowest....which was more like 1.5 under normal conditions. If lean on it just a little, it'll go up past 3K easily. It's never done this until about a month ago.

Grief. If I'm just feathering the peddle, My car likes to shift at around 1700 rpms in all gears, and reaches OD around 40 mph.

That's how my max reacted until about a month ago. It's worse when cold...When I leave my driveway, it would go to 3500 under normal acceleration if I let it. I have to feather it to keep it under 2500.

Makes me wonder if mine is the norm.

Could the solenoid problem cause ppl's trannys to shift late?

That's on my list of suspicions, as was the TPS. I was originally hoping that it would be the lower cost more easily replaced part.

I think their is a writeup for installing new solenoids, and iirc, run around $80?

But, it's a job I don't want to have to do, just like a water pump install.
