Has your 4th gen been lazy lately or has felt like it doesnt want to pull sometimes? or has seemed like youve floored the pedal to the ground but its seems like it should be you pulling the car instead?

The 4th gen doesn't like aftermarket intakes, especially with the auto transmission.
The stock setup will give you the best throttle response.

My 99 with 170,000 runs and pulls like the day I drove it out of the dealership.

well that answered my "why is my car sluggish" question, i messed with the throttle cable to get a better throttle response but it burns more gas now. i got to keep messing with it to get the right trottle response with out burning so much gas...

99 with 180,000 miles - pulls really good.

My 99 pulls really well, totally stock, not sure why yours would feel sluggish.

I just tried something. I turned my cr off and primed the engine by stepping on the pedal a few times and started the car and got instant power back. Im guessing its still the rear coils or fuel filter. It seems its not getting a clean flow of fuel to the engine. Imma do a tune up in the morning and see if its the source of the problem. Keep your experiences coming guys

You have a fuel injected motor, stepping on the gas while the engine is off does absolutely nothing.

placed the sensor in the right spot. response is pretty good.

totally true.. you get used to your car after awhile. Its the same feeling as how you think your car got faster with an intake or an oil change or any other upgrade maintenance's. You get used to your aftermarket parts because you drive it and expect it to pull harder and harder but its not.

i was boosting 12psi in my mr2 and it felt great but i got used to it. I up the boost to 18 psi and it felt super fast for a couple months, then i just got used it; it wasnt even my daily either..

he mentioned that he needs new rear coils and a new fuel filter, change those out and you'll probably get a better response

Well guys, I just did a full Tune up, new spark plugs, fuel filter and air fresheners. The car is kicking strong like before. Still gonna replace the coil packs eventually, then get a 300zx fuel pump. Then take it from there. There is an unusual soft ping noise, any suggestions? Performance not affected by the noise.

Pinging sound? What kind of gas do you use?
Did you clean the throttle body when you did your tune up? Also, change the PCV Valve if it hasn't been replaced. Your car will feel better.

yea the air must smell good after a tune up for it to be a real complete tune up. i did replace the pcv valve to and it nothing to do with the gas grade, trust me. i gapped the plugs correct to 44 so there shouldnt be a problem unless its the coils dying, but other than that still pulling ahead of the civic si"s and all the other rival cars. imma be a little more specific though, its not a pinging noise that your thinking of. its more like a soft electrical clicking noise so itmost likely is the coil pack enjoying their new spark plugs since i never did a tune up when i brought the car back in november off the guy who wrecked it in a accident. the max has came to a more responsible owner and was given life by me

Why would you mess with the throttle cable? were you adjusting it? Just make sure you are not pulling on the plate too hard. Have you gave that car a tune up? a clogged cat will make the car feel sluggish too!
