If you hear your starter spinning and your engine not turning over, you only have two options. Its either your starter or your battery was drained and does not have enough juice.

i would take a starter back and get a new one. when you take it out check the teeth on the starter and the fly wheel make sure there all there. take the battery and put it on a charge make sure its not drained a little from the amps.

Try to give it a boost before replacing the starter.

Multimeter

What readings are you getting? With your "rotating electrical" system its gotta be the battery/starter/alternator as that's all there is.

If we're down to battery/starter, let us know the readings on each. If they are both within spec, maybe check battery cables for corrosion...

Heres what to do to eliminate battery

If you have another vehicle, and like 20mins, take out the battery, and take it to your local battery sales store, and ask them to load test it and charge it, they should do this for free. If its all good, then you know it is the starter, also if you pop off the fuel filter, when you turn the key see if it shoots gas everywhere to know that your getting fuel.

Bump!

If your car takes longer (winds longer) to start, even with a brand new battery, new fuel filter, and spark plugs, does that indicate that the starter is going? Can coil packs also give this sort of symptom if they're going out?

My car just started this problem this morning. I even went as far as conditioning the battery with a battery charger but my car still takes a couple-three seconds to crank when previously as soon as my key hit the limit of the turn (in the ignition), my car would instantly turn on and very quietly. Now as it's trying to crank... it's sort of loud and literally takes about 2 sometimes 3 seconds to finally crank.

Do you hear your fuel pump when you leave the key in the "On" position? (it's pretty quiet, so you have to be in a silent area and listen to a low whirr).

I have a long starting problem too, I've narrowed it down to it being a bad FPR, I also blame the FPR for my stumbling under sudden throttle changes (Haven't replaced it yet due to my lack of care/laziness, I have more important things to deal w/ on the car than that).
