Heater fan

Hi. I'm new to the board could I get some help please? My fan settings 1,2 and 3 don't work, but 4 does. The compressor does turn on when I flip the fan switch from off to 1 with the defroster set, therefore the car is sensing that the fan switch is moving. Anythoughts? It's winter here in Connecticut and all i have is full blast for my heater.

Thanks,

Chadi

Your resistor pack is burnt out. Under the glove box mounted on the HVAC system you will see plug with quite a few wires coming from it. It's usually located right after the fan houseing. That is your resistor block. It controls fan speeds 1,2,3. 4 uses no resistor and that why it's working in your car. The part is about 35 bucks from Nissan.

Any other possibilities besides the resistor pack being fried? My 1,2,3 speeds stopped working after I had a new headunit installed yesterday. Maybe the guy forgot to re-plug in the wire from behind? (Although 4 works, as in the original post...) Could it also be a fuse? Haven't had time to check yet... but I just wanna get an idea of what I should expect or look for. THanks.

If it stopped working right after the head unit was installed i would look there first. After checking you fuses.

I have the same problem.
I took the cover off and saw a plastic box(Resistor Pack???) with bunch of wires. There is a hex nut in the middle of the box and I think the nut is holding the box in place. Am I right?

All I have to do is removed the nut and replaced the resistor pack?
Am I right?

The resistor pack is BACK ORDER and I need to make sure I order the correct part and see if I could do it.

Thanks,

I had my resister pack go at about 150,000 miles.

The fourth generation Maxima has a yellow air bag connector just above the glove compartment that the Haynes Manual says should be disconnected before you change the resistor pack.

It's real easy to replace, though.

I was told that the resister pack is placed where it is so that it will have air blowing on it to help it cool since it provides resistance to the flow of electricity when it is in the slower settings, but since it does get hot and cold it eventually fails.

When it does fail all you have is the maximum setting that is operational.

If it was disconnected it wouldn't work at all, right.

Check out a service manual for replacement steps to be safe.

resistor pack

After hearing the stealership wanted $100 to replace the resistor pack I ordered one from newnissanparts.com for $22 plus $6 for shipping. Thanx to the info on this board I replaced it in 5 minutes......In the dark with a flashlight! Now what to do with the extra $72....is it too early to start drinking?
