Noise when I brake- from front wheels

I had my brakes done over 2 years ago. I drive moderately and I don't drive my 95 SE super aggresive.

About a year and a half ago I started getting this noise every time I would brake. It would come from the front and sounded like rubber being rubbed on metal. I have had two mechanics look at the front wheels, brakes and suspension. I lubricated the moving parts of the calipers, I replaced one of front lower control arms as the bushing wore out.

I still hear the noise when I brake. It's even more when there is heavy rain. I am going to have to replace my brakes soon as the pads are wearing down. The SE stills stops well with no major fade.

Any suggestions as this is driving me nuts. Thanks

Problem fixed

Got rid of the noise, had to replace my front rotors. My rotors were not surfaced properly over a couple of years ago and over time, the pads started to make noise. I saw some dull spots on the rotors when I had them pulled off. Teaches me a lesson of being wary of who works on my Maxima, as this young kid who I don't think was trained properly did my brakes.

It is great that you gave your problem and gave the solution even if no one responded to you. I appreciate this because my rotors are making that EXACT noise and I was wondering what the hell is going on. My pads are thick and now that you mention it, my rotors are kinda grooved.

It's ok, I blame your parents.

its always a trade off. drilled slotted rotors noise faster brake pad wear, better brake pads faster rotor wear and noise.

just stick oem unless your on the track....

That's what forums are for, and I am happy to share any solutions that I do find out or if someone else on the forum gives a great solution. I had two mechanics on this car and I lucked out this time with a mechanic who had seen this exact same problem. Good luck with your fix.

i actually get about the same pad wear w/drilled/slotted rotors as i did w/oem...more noise (the card in the bike spoke) but better stopping with the right pads. for me the quietest, longest wearing, best pedal feel, best stopping pads are VGX pads, metallic not ceramic. just my .02. oh yeah it's a daily driver,
i drive her hard but i don't have to stand on the brakes to stop! rotors have been on for almost 3 years with minor wear, 3 sets of pads on frt & 2 on rear. about average..15k per frt...22k for rear.

@ Maxie40: Thanks for sharing! May I ask exactly what was wrong with your rotors? Were they warped? I do have that same kind of problem.

Cheers!

The same problem as with my rotors. They form grooves that cause an odd noise. Not nearly as bad as metal to rotor but almost like a rubber pad grinding. Hard to explain but you and hear it. Mine only does it after the brakes get hot though.

Doesnt it cost about the same to resurface rotors or buy new ones?

The mech around my area charge around $10 to resurface rotors but you do get a thinner rotor back esp if its very groovy so new rotors are probably worth it.
