Relocating KS?

Is it possible to relocate my KS to be on top of the manifold, there are two holes for bolts at the top right, im thinking of moving it there.

Reason? Because the ratchet my friend used to try and remove my KS got stuck...........................

I wouldn't recommend it. But you can move it if you want.

Why wouldnt you recommend it? As my car sits now, the sensor it broken, and I just cannot get the bolt off, and im not paying 600 for a mechanic to remove one bolt.

It seems as though it would work?

well the rubber gasket on the im might not let the sensor read anything so you will always be at full timing. If you really have to relocate it, find a bolt on the block.

people that do the bypass mod will say there is no problem moving the sensor but you run the risk of knocking and the ecu not doing anything about it and thus harming the engine

Bypass mod? What do you mean? Like delete it?

Yeah they put a resistor to fool the ecu into thinking there is a ks there.

470k ohm

Hmmm, thats kinda cool. I wouldnt go that route though. I'll look for somewhere on the block to place it, if anyone knows, please chime in

Edit: If I do go the resistor way, all I need to do is run 91+ fuel to avoid knocking and listen for any knocking?

If you use a KS that's mounted badly, it's the same as the resistor. Here it is if you're interested:

Ok, so it WOULD work, but those who do it just need to watch out for engine knock? Thanks for the write up by the way

^^^

Honestly when u look at the normal location for the KS it is in an optimal central symetrical location to "sense" all six cylinders.

The KS on the side of the engine like that is NOT optimal. But it IS a quick fix lol

As I said before, ive got a, ummm... wrench... stuck on my current KS and its broken. So I need to move it.

This is all under the assumption that firestone didnt remove my intake to change my power steering pump and replace the ks (and retrieve my wrench) already

Double post, can someone link a tutorial/write up on the resistor mod? I cant seem to find one, and that may be my better option.

If you have a wrench stuck in there, you really should get it out. The wrench is probably on an angle to the bolt head and wedged on. Figure out which way the wrench is tilted and straighten it (probably with a hammer) to get it off. Then you can loosen the nut with a short box wrench.

No no, its on the bolt, and stuck b/c its pinned against the manifold

The wrench is doing no harm, its not in the way of anything. Its got a swivel head but the fuel line is in the way and i cant swivel it down enough to get it out. My friends an idiot and i cant believe he got it stuck

You're the man good idea Had a suby with valve noise, KS kept throwing a code. We bolted in to the firewall, got it to pass emissions

OK, what I think has happened is that the bolt has been partially screwed out but it is not out of the threaded hole because the socket wrench is in the way. So all you need to do is screw the bolt back into place, but don't tighten it and take the socket wrench off. Then you can take the bolt out by hand or with a box or flat wrench.

Nope, not it, we didnt get the bolt to budge.

I go back to my first post then. You'll have to use some BS&I (brute strength an ignorance) to get it off.

I don't believe I would leave that in there. It's not stock and really has no performance gains. eh... take it off. Have you tried the two p's? Persistence and patience.
