Exhaust Banging Against Undercarriage

Ive had my catback on for a while now, I went with the ebay/custom maxima catback.

This started about a month ago.

When ever I pull a hard turn I hear it bang against something, im not sure what, but it does, and sometimes it hits a couple times before it settles. Ive looked at it and tried to move it by hand but it seems to be in place pretty well. I had it installed by 321VQ35MAX at the dealership he works at, when it was installed I heard no noises, nothing it was perfect. Ideas?

-sounds to me like just behind the cat...or where the car would be...right before the 90 degree turn...its bouncing off the cross member support thing....mine does it too when i hit a bump that makes it bounce..

-.it could also be a support rubbing the car around the y pipe area...check that and see if its been scraping...

jack up the car on that back side, grab the exhaust where it goes over the axel and see how much play it has...and look around for any dents in the exhaust, or any obvious wear in the surrounding areas where it may be rubbing/hitting.. sorry im not more help:/

hey, i had that problem too when my rear hanger broke.. you can take it to your local muffler shop and have readjusted and reweld a new hanger that will have your exhaust still and stop it from bouncing up and down..The banging noise gets annoying and i just fixed mine when i put my 2.5 on..

sounds like your rubber hangers are getting old or may even be broken. might be time to pick up some new ones

Sounds like the axle, under duress, is coming up and smacking your exhaust. Put a bunch of people in the back of the car, and go over some bumps. That should either confirm or deny my theory.

Check the bracket that is before the bend around the gas tank. its held on with one bolt and comes loose and the bolt can break easily. i had my local exhaust shop weld the bolt to the bracket to make it more of a stud and it took care of my exhaust whacking back and forth.

This has to be it, i managed to grab hold of that bend and shake it and it was hitting something, the rubber hanger felt really weak

My rear muffler braket had rusted and broken off so the exhaust was banging around for a while. By the time I got it into a shop the pipe was cracked right where it enters the resonator. I had them just cut out the resonator and replace with regular pipe and add on a new rear hanger.

Muffler is as quiet as it ever was and no more banging. Paid $90 cash, probably not the greatest deal but way cheaper than a new muffler.
