Supercharger Idea/Question

I have been doing a lot of dwelling on how to make enough $ to afford even a used sc kit from stillen or to wait for Hogans new powerdyne kit. Well seeing as I cannot scrape together that much $ I have come to other ideas. First off, I see the blower itself going for around a grand or Ive even seen them for around $500 depending on if the person is selling a kit or just the blower. My idea is, we or I somehow get the parts custom made or fabed to fit the car and the blower. The blower I am talking about is the regular vortech v1 and v2 blower's. Now, I was thinking maybe some of us could go in and buy one sc kit from stillen and have a machine shop make the parts off of that, or if someone has a kit we could use to get the sizes and specs for parts off of? I know this is a far fetched idea but for many of us trying to mod our cars I think this may work. I have already contacted stillen about possibly selling the parts alone like bov, piping etc. If anyone has any input on this or comments etc please post. I do think I could fit the whole deal in under 2 grand or $2500 depending on how this is done. Like I said, I think the best way would be to get the specs of the kit off of someones stillen kit or some of us go in and buy a kit directly from stillen and work off of that. I am always told everything is going to be more expensive blah blah blah but I think its worth a shot. Thanks,

Mike

Sorry to take what you just said and say this in return. because the lord know that I want some more power, but you know a post such as this implies copywrite and patent infingment? So maybe you would like to take a look at the way Stillen has made there kit for its functionability and make your own? Independant of design and structure?

you could (i hate to even mention it at the risk of sounding like the mississippi redneck i can be) go to a junk yard and try to locate a wrecked nissan x-terra or frontier with a v-6. that should bolt right up, although it may take some fabrication and/or inginuty. just a thought!!!!

this has been proposed numerous times.

considering ive probably done the most (stillen) parts hunting around when it comes to SC parts...

its a pita. Im sure you could custom make it and all, but to maintain some kinda quality (ie metal brackets to hold stuff in place) .. youd probably have to order some kinda quantity.

the kit isnt just vortech blower, pullies, some belts, and a big black pipe. it includes a fmu, a LOT LOT LOT of relocation crap (which is HORRIBLY described when you look at stillens parts list)

the time alone would cost more than the kit.. i dont mean to flame you or anything, just that itd cost more than i paid for the sc. better off being patient and waiting for either hogans, or a used sc to show up for sale.

good luck with the boost

great idea till you burn a whole in the side of a cylinder... Or you are up against a an M3 and don't have time to hook up your bottle right there at the traffic light.

Mike,

Let's start off simple... Why would anyone in their right minds buy a SC kit and then allow you to copy it... (BTW I already offered that before my SC was installed in another thread called POORMAN'S SUPERCHARGER... Do a search)

Let's get a little more complex from a technical perspective being as I know the V1 kit inside and out... 7 ways to send it and all that other jazz. OgreDave is right about finding parts for the kit, he was pivotal in me getting my missing parts from Stillen. Without him I would probably still have a blower in a box, not in the car.

Now...
A brand new Vortech V2 is going to run you (even with a dealer discount) $1500 bux. There is no getting around that unless you buy in major bulk (lots of capital needed) or you have a huge name (like Stillen probably does as far as Vortech is concerned). Call Vortech directly and price out a brand new V2... as a consumer you will pay 1800 for the blower alone. The FMU is at least another hundred bux, and a Walbro in tank Fuel Pump is another 100 bux. So right off the bat you are staring 2g's right in the face, and that does not include a BOV... 150 bux, Air Filter...25 bux... All the various nuts, bolts, clamps, washers, hoses etc, that you need. So right there you are looking at Approx 2300 bux just to get this project off the ground. Then you get into the "CUSTOM" part of the project... the Mounting plate, the Crossover tubing, and all the relocators and stuff. The mounting plate has to be CAD'd to insane specs, if it is off to the slightest degree, it won't work, plain and simple... pullies/belt won't line up, screws may not go in etc... R&D on that plate is gonna cost you big time, even if you copy off Stillen's 100%. If you copy off Stillen's then you have to decide to go with a V1 style mounting plate or V2 style. Both have downfalls. V1 Mounting plate... you need to modify the thermostat housing... another custom part, factor more $$ into the equation. V2 mounting plate, you have to factor in the relocation of the Idler pulley, and that is another custom/costly expense. Crossover Piping... Custom again.

Personally as I stated in the Poormans SC threads: http://forums.maxima.org/search.php?...der=descending
I don't think it can be done for significantly less than Stillens cost. And you have to remember that as big time @$$holes as they can be, they DO offer a warranty. Something you probably wouldn't be able to do.

Food for thought bro...hit me on IM for more specifics.
