regreasing starter: how much grease?

my starter has been making some noises now that it is getting really cold so i am going to regrease it and see if that helps it.

how much grease do i actually put back in there? just enough that everything is covered, or really pack it with grease?

I packed quite a bit of grease in there with no ill effect. That being said, with good grease you dont need a whole lot, so you can use "enough", or "alot". Just put a good coating on each gear and bushing and youll be fine.

ok i ran across something that had slipped my mind.

i have a grounding kit and i had removed the bolt that runs through the starter and connected a wire to that,so instead of taking the starter apart today i tightened that bolt a little since i think it may have been a little loose.
i figure that since that bolt holds the starter together any play may cause the parts to vibrate and create the sound. may be a long stretch but now that i think of it the noise started happening after the installation of the kit.

hopefully that solves it!
