Any one race a GTI 1.8T

I was looking at the specs, 180hp, and it is a light car.
Would a moded maxima beat it? - ypipe intake

That would depend on whats done to the 1.8T I suppose. Previous years were not rated at 180, but rather 150 (though they made more like 170.) Mod for mod, the 1.8T is faster because its a stock turbo vehicle. They aren't as light as you may think though. 2000 Golf weighs 2900 lbs and 2000 GTI weighs 2800 lbs. Not a whole lot lighter than a maxima.

I've raced one and beat him.

A reprogrammed ECU for $500 can boost an otherwise stock 1.8T to over 200 hp and 240 lb-ft torque.. So watch out

Reprogrammed how? I've heard that aftermarket ECU programs work wonders for those cars... is there nothing in the program that modifies the turbo boost or timing settings and bumps them up a bit higher? With that kind of power gain I would suspect it's more than just a simple fuel curve or rev limiter change.

Basically it just turns up the boost.. Because I heard that the VW engines are detuned from the factory, so they can handle the extra boost.. Go read vwvortex.com forums, thats we're I'm getting my info from...

So the Maxi will actually start puilling after the century mark?

Low 15's and low 90mph traps, sounds about even for a 4/5 gen Max.

they have short 1 / 2 / 3 gears.. you wouldn't imagine how fast they get off the line and start pulling away... if you can hang with them to 95 mph you are all set.. other wise.. its over.. ask RussMaxManiac... he got walked by one in his 2k1 5spd when he was bone stock .. but russ got an Intake and got his revenge.. i have a video of Ant97SE 5spd with CAI / Y pipe / Exhaust .. but i wouldn't do that to Ant.. lets just say it was more than 3 cars to 90 mph..

and one of my closest and dearest friends has a 2k1 vr6 .. his is chipped now.. car hauls.. 0 - 70 mph he can hang with my cousin's GS400 .. actually i was in the car with my cousin and from 20 - 80 the GTI had 1 car.. and we couldn't catch him.. and he had another passenger also.. he is skills on Vortex..

Damn... I hear that 4-cylinder motor starts to have internal problems after 100k miles or so... I can't imagine what bumping the turbos 8psi higher than stock would do!

I sure as hell hope whoever gets one of those chips for their GTI either gets a turbo timer, or understands the concept of letting their car cool down while idling.

Just read in a magazine now, and it states that a stock GTI puts down like 142hp to the wheels, and 162ft/lbs, and they added a cat-back and chip, and it increased to approx. 180 to the wheels with 206ft/lbs at the wheels, that's modded 5spd 4th gen Maxi territory with a slight weiht advantaged grantesd to the GTI. Damn boost-adding chips

the 2k2 GTI vr6 and shssssh (some like my friends 2k1) come with 201 hp 210 tq ... in my opinion ALL 2k1 came with 201 hp they just underated it at the factory.. some guy dynoed his bone stock 2k1 and got 177 fwhp.. now it was rated as 185 at the crank from the factory

the Turbo's and BOV's on the GTI's are very weak.. and are prone to problems.. but some guys are running 20 PSI...

Aren't some of those VW motors, such as the vr6 motor, the same ones used in the audis?

yup, I raced one from a dead, and I just couldn't keep up, those gears are close plus the engine produces massive amounts of low end torque, via the small turbo, so yeah, might not want to mess around with those things, and hanging with a GS400?

With a simple K&N and swiss cheese air box and Garrett chip they fly! Not very expensive mods and make a massive difference on a VR6! We pull 230km/hr easy on my buddies mk3 with 15" rims with those mods. We raced about 6 times and our cars a very even. No one pulls away in any gear!

I raced a brand new GTi like 3 days ago...Not sure if it was VR6 or 1.8T. I think it was an auto...We raced off a dead stop....De took off and then I took off late...wondering if he was really racing....And i came back and beat him by like 2 car lengths and pulling still but had to stop to turn.
