well we need some other swap guys to chime in... and i have certainly never have done or wd attempted this swap. I wd rather jus wait and buy a 5 spd car.
but its possibly that the holes were tapped for the length of the auto bolts. both AT and MT have some sort of reinforcement plate so the AT bolts prolly do fit but are not completely backed in. All vibes had to do is torque the bolts in until they were flush, which is what he did cuz he stated he used an impact gun.
It doesnt matter what bolts he used. Hell, he cd have bought new bolts. Bottom line here is that the swap is complete and his car isnt trashed.
If he says he got it to work then he got it work. We shdnt be flaming him.

Captor is cool and i understand where he coming from cuz some ppl do post pretty ridiculous sh*t. And for the most part i agree with him when he flames other ppl.
But when u doing a swap like this then there undoubtedly is gonna be some improvising. And again, i am willin to bet the bolt holes on the AT engine were tapped shorter than the manual or the manual bolts would have fit.
Either way, good work on the swap man. and nice pics

I never took any pics during the swap. What kinda pics did you want?
Now that I'm thinking back, I remember that my buddy had 3 manual flywheel bolts laying around and we initially thought that we needed to use these. We were swapping on a sunday so dealer parts department was closed. We threaded in the manual ones that we had and they were infact too long. We were stumped, so we grabbed the old auto bolts (that we almost threw away) and they fit perfect.
I know it sounds strange, but its true. When I went to the salvage yard to get the flywheel I made sure I got all of the components that came with it. Bolts for the pressure plate, the 8 bolts for the flywheel, and reinforcement plate. Now, when me and some friends of mine at the shop installed the flywheel with the manual bolts and reinforcement plate the manual bolts were not going in flush with the reinforcement plate. I was like WTF???? We used an impact gun for manual and auto bolts with manual reinforcement plate, manual did not work. My friends who helped me out have over 20 years of experience in the auto mechanic industry and have done numerous conversions. Point is, is that it did not work for me. Have you heard the saying, "Their is more than one way to skin a cat"?

$1200 would have gotten gotten you a full 6spd swap (well ... that is being a MT already maybe). Good job, glad it's working for you! I know it was a job and a half, but it's done now and you can take pride in the fact that you dun it man! lol

Bump from the dead! I'll be doing this same swap pretty soon & I like what I see here! But did you have a problem wiring up the tranny to the Parking & Neutral switch I believe it was as stated here?
"1 Bypass the P-N start switch
1.1 TAKE OFF BATTERY CLAMPS (negative and positive) to make sure you don't mess something up electrically.
1.2 Remove the entire air box assembly and lines so you can see onto the top of your transmission.
1.3 Disconnect the harness that goes into the front of the transmission that only has 2 wires. (Note: the front of the transmission refers to the part that is closest to the front of the car)
1.4 Get your wire and cut a 6 inch strip
1.5 Use the wire taps to connect the 6 inch piece of wire to both of those wires (This will in effect connect these wires)
Add-on to the instructions:
In step 1.5, it says to connect two wires on the tranny harness. You instead, need to run a wire from both of the tranny wires, to the clutch pedal switch (small switch that is engaged when you push the clutch all the way down). This will let your car know when it is "Neutral (since it thinks it is an automatic)".. your reason for doing this, is so that 1. You cant start the car without the clutch(safety)... and #2, SO CRUISE CONTROL WILL WORK.
1.6 Don't reconnect the plug.
1.7 Connect the battery.
1.8 Put your parking brake on
1.9 Try to crank your car (Don't start it, just see if it cranks)
· If it does not, re-tap the wires or connect them in some way. And try to start again.
· If it still does not start you can't follow instructions and are not capable of doing this yourself since it is the easiest part."
