Im from the Altimas.net forum, and i can get my hands on a 4th gen Max engine. i need to know the measurements, and all necessary hardware to make this swap possible with out all trouble. i have buddy at a junk yard. he is willing to do the work. as far as i know, my 99 Altima SE-L has the same tranny. let me know guys, thanx

Re: Hey guys, i need some help with a possible VQ30 swap..

You will need the engine, tranny, drive axles, ECU + wiring harness, all 5 engine mounts and a FSM for the maxima and your altima. If your car is an auto go ahead and buy a protorque TC while the tranny is out. Don't forget to get either the VB mod too. No since in swapping trannys but not installing the good stuff while its easy. BTW check if the ECU is from a 95-97 maxima, those years can get the G-force or JWT ECU upgrade while the others can't.

yeah my car IS an auto the TC and VB upgrades sounds like a good idea while the engine is still out. so i wouldnt have any downtime. how can i make sure my ECU is the same as the 95-97 max? how much fabrication would u guys think would be involved? my mom acutally has a 98 MAX and the engine looks like it would fit in there pretty good. what do u think that approx costs of parts alone would be, from a junk yard of course

you do know it would be more lucrative to put a SR20DET motor in your car right? and its proven to fit..

yeah it does make for sence to do that SR20 motor in it. but from what i've learned. theres gotta be quite alot of fabrication needed to be done, and since my car is front wheel drive..thats even worse..any more ideas?

the SR20DET would be simpler I think, or how about a KA24DET? you can get a kit for ~3K.. they also sell FWD SR20DETs... just check out www.unstable-hybrids.com

well if you wana go ahead with the VQ swap you probably would have to end up paying $$$$ for fabrication unless you have some shop hookups... I'd go with a KA24DET just a personal opinion

I have a friend that has the DET in his B13 Sentra which is a FWD car. He's down to a 13.1 1/4. I've never heard of putting one in the Alti though. I honestly think that that would be a much better way to go then the VQ.

It may cost about that much but look at what you have to spend for the VQ swap. Now assuming you do 100% of all the fabrication (like installing a 3rd engine mount, re-routing coolant hoses, labeling and correctly installing the ECU wire harness + splicing into the altima existing main harness) the labor alone is in the $1500-3000 range. Then you have to buy the drivetrain, I've seen the VQ's go for around $700-1500, the tranny runs about $400-800, drive axles about $75-200 for both. So you have already spent close to $3k and the car is still stuck running mid 15s. Now you have to buy bolt ons which still might keep you in the 15s. I say buy the Fmax turbo kit and be happy with what you got. $ for $ a KA24DET will make more power/torque than a NA VQ30DE would.

this is the email i got..."I can get you a FWD SR20DET with or tranny, ECU, wiring harness, ignitor, MAF,
turbo, and so forth, price depends on what you GTi-R or bluebird....Installed price on something like this running stock would be in the $5000
range installed by us."

Well it sounds like they are going to include everything to make it a true SR20DET. but im still unsure about the reputation of this company. so far it sounds good
