flywheel question

im going to do a trans swap and the fly wheel isnt that bad can i sand it down to scuff the surface with sand paper? wire brush on a die grinder? any thoughts?
next question if i take the flywheel off is there a certain way it needs to go back on for timing purposes?

any input is appreciated

I got mine professionally resurfaced for like 40-60 bucks at a diesel shop. I did this to ensure proper balancing. I would not wanna take off too much with the sandpaper only to finish the swap and find that it vibrates.

I have used a random orbital sander on a flywheel before. If I had the money resurface would be better, but as long as the surface is even with no hard spots you'll be ok. IF you drive hard or are spending the cash on a performance clutch, resurface it for extra insurance.

Yo luke man

jus be careful man...u dont want high spots.
I wd say start with fine sandpaper and move to somethin more coarse if not getting desired results.

How many miles on it? Has it ever been resurfaced? If your car has a ton of miles on it, and if you don't know the answer to the second one, I'd go ahead and do it.

And the answer to your second question is no, it doesn't matter.

Not coarser than 120. I'd go 150. Don't stay in one spot very long. You don't want to remove any metal, just rough it up I lil.

Timing ring still doesn't matter at all, and yah, a little roughing up with sandpaper couldn't hurt then.
