VQ35 SWAP Advice NEEDED!

Hello everybody, I will be doing a VQ35 swap soon and wanted to get your advice and opinions. First off, let me get to the point. I would like to run 12's OR BETTER with the VQ35 Swap but, with a CHEAP setup . My spending limit after I get the motor would be $3,000-4,000, I don't want nitrous! All labor will be done by me and my mechanics. Here are my options and maybe you VQ35 swap experts can help me on this, I was thinking:

Option 1 ----Cheap VQ35 N/A Build:

Pistons and Rods (Tell me a good one for the price, I was thinking CP Pistons and Eagle Rods?)

ARP bolts and studs

NWP Spacer Kit

Cams- To gain more midrange or top-end power ( Which ones do I get?)

Injectors (Which ones do I get?)

4th gen Fidanza Flywheel ( I heard they are better than the 5th gens)

5th gen Stage 3 Clutch (I heard they grip better than the 4th gens)

Unorthodox Light weight Crank Pulley

VQ35 Headers- Cattman (if I can get some, I heard they are hard to get because they are only made in group deals) or OBX headers

Greddy E-Manage

OR

Option 2----- VQ35 Turbo

VQ35 w/ stock internals on 10psi of boost—(I heard 10 psi is a safe setup to run on stock internals)

NWP Spacer Kit

4th gen Fidanza Flywheel ( I heard they are better than the 5th gens)

5th gen Stage 3 Clutch (I heard they grip better than the 4th gens)

Unorthodox Light weight Crank Pulley

VQ35 Headers- Cattman (if I can get some, I heard they are hard to get because they are only made in group deals) or OBX headers

3” Custom Exhaust

Greddy E-Manage

PLEASE DON’T TELL ME TO SEARCH, I ALREADY DID!

Personally (i am turbo'd), I would do the NA setup.

Option 1 ----Cheap VQ35 N/A Build:

Pistons and Rods: I would get the higher compression HR pistons(there is a thread in the all motor forum showing what mods need to be done to use um)

Try to find an 07+ Altima or 09+ Maxima VQ. They have HR heads which flow better an a IM which is 10x better than the 02-08 maxima IM.

ARP bolts and studs(not needed NA)

NWP Spacer Kit

Cams- To gain more midrange or top-end power: JWT or BC

Injectors: 370cc

4th gen Fidanza Flywheel 95-01 is the same if you are keeping the 5speed(if you switch to 6speed you need that fly)

5th gen Stage 3 Clutch: 95-01 is the same, look at southbend clutches.

Unorthodox Light weight Crank Pulley

VQ35 Headers- Cattman or OBX headers

Thx for the advice and info kevlo! I greatly appreciate it! Question? Correct me if I'm wrong but, I heard there are some fitmnet issues with the 07+ Altima VQ35'S and 09 Maxima VQ35'S?

Also, are the JWT (Jim Wolf Technology) and BC (Bryan Crower) cams a straight drop in? No mods right?

Will this N/A setup guarantee me to run 12's or better in the 1/4 mile?

You said you were turbo'd. Why not turbo?

Just the same mods as regular 3.5 cams with the 30 timing(spacers)

There is some modding with the 09+ max motor as seen in the all motor thread about the motor, but with the 30 timing, it eliminates most of the probs. I would assume the 07 altima motor is similar.

A high compression NA motor with around 275-300whp should get you close to the 12's. You should do some weight reduction to the car as well.

http://forums.maxima.org/1-4-1-8-mil...deo-added.html

He hit 12's and if you do the swap i suggested, you will have more power than him.

i think this will be good

1_ 4.0 CAMS
2_ 4.0 Crank
3_ Change Piston I guess 11 will be good but think about the piston number

Ok, thx for the info and the link. Yeah, I saw that video of Nealoc. His car is pretty quick. Do I still need the 3.0 timing components from stephen max? I heard he is the only person that makes good quality components.

Weight reduction sounds like a plus+. Carbon fiber hood? I would like to keep my interior seats though

Stephen max makes the adapters, rest of the timing you can use your old ones or buy new stuff.

cf hood is a good start, as are lighter wheels.

I agree with everything except for the ARP bolts.

Id do arp bolts even if n\a. Your pretty much right there in the bottom end especially if you swap out oil pans. IMO it would be cheap insurance. Id still probley have a 3.5 if i would of used them...... But you can probley do without the studs.

tru, i was only thinking the head bolts, forgot that the 35 needed upgraded rod/main stud kit.

Ok, here is my thing about switching the timing chain components from my VQ30 to the VQ35. My VQ30 has 260,000 miles. Should I just get a whole new VQ30 timing chain kit or use the one on my VQ30?

I think a VQ30 timing kit is like 200-300 bucks so it is not too bad. You can reuse your covers. Not sure what comes in the kit from nissan but all you need is the chain, guides, and tensioners IMO.
