Its a 97 with 58k miles on it. The one I was getting from a 96 ended up NOT having the LSD, so so they are giving me the 97 for the same price. Can anyone confirm that it does have the locking diff?

I dont know if its canadian or not. I have the VIN number and can pull the Carfax on it. What I'm trying to determine is if it has the LSD or not. I was told by the salvage yard that it does have it. I was asuming that with the VIn I could determine if it does.I cant seem to locate the part number for the tranny to figure out if it does or not.

That Vin won't tell you.. you would have to look at the tranny itself.. it starts with a V i think...

The V in the middle of the VIN number above says the car is an SE (or ES if canadian). If the tranny was on a US model, it does not have the VLSD. If the tranny was on the ES canadian model, it does have the VLSD.
The VIN# itself will not tell you anything about the diff, however.
The tranny model# for the open diff 5speed is R5F50A. The model for a VLSD 5speed is R5F50V. I do not know if or where the code is stamped on the tranny case, but you're looking for the tranny R5F50V.
That's all I know. Good luck!
