Was TCS only offered in 99 Auto Maximas?

Basically just trying to confirm the info. Is there anyone out there with a 99 5 speed (from the factory, not swapped) maxima with the TCS? Thanks guys

No.

I'm sure, but it's rare.

//Edit//

I'm wrong, TCS only comes w/ Automatics.

So, there are 5 speed maximas with the TCS, right?

Yes, but a needle in a haystack.

I've only seen pictures of one, but I haven't really been looking for one either... When I was looking for a Max I was trying to avoid ABS/TCS as much as possible, so I was not focusing my search on the cars w/ TCS.

You are right in your initial assumption, most are going to be Automatic, since that is an option, along with ABS which is needed for TCS.

Yeah, only seen a Max with TCS once in person. A local guy here has it...dark green Max too. And if IIRC, he's a 5spd.

my friend had a 99 auto maxima wit TCS IIRC... but this was (5+)years ago. It's the only one i've ever seen, ever. He ended up totalling the car though.

Did it have a light or so that told you when it was on or off?

Ive had my maxima since 99, and it has traction control. It was an automatic when i bought it. About 5 years ago, I did the auto/manual swap....i bought an I30 5spd, and I was told it was an LSD (still not sure)....anyway, ever since then, I've lost my traction control....i'm not really sure how to wire it to get it back (i think it's still possible). There is a black switch with a green light where you can either turn the TCS on or off. When the TCS system is actually in use though, an orange light comes on at the bottom of your speedo, that quickly lights when it's in use. Living in NJ where it snows, a lot, the TCS cam in very handy. I just wish I can figure out how to wire it back in for my 5spd.

Off topic, but I'll bite.

Does your ABS still work?

That's exactly what happened to me. I got a 99 SE-L with the TCS, and i just swapped to 5 speed. Now TCS dont work, and i cant figure out why. I know it communicates with the TCM and changes the shift intervals when in use, so my assumption, since the TCM is useless now TCS malfunctions because of that. But if there are 5 speed maximas with it, i dont know

P.S. ABS works fine

AH! Now that I'm at work I can look these things up.

TCS was only offered w/ Automatics.

Shouldn't be hard to get it to work though, just got to figure out what wire signal to intercept from the TCS unit that gives the fuel cut signal to the ECU.

Could you please elaborate on the fuel cut signal? From what I understand this part of the TCS still there and works fine. It's just it's searching for the TCM and the auto tranny, and not getting the signal back it shuts off

I wish I could elaborate more, but the FSM is vague about it....

I'm not sure if it cuts the fuel pump itself or injectors.

But as I understand it it's TCS->ECU->TCM

But again... The FSM is kinda vague in that dept.....

You are correct, looking at a 99 Maxima brochure ( I have one from every year since 89 in my car brochure stash). It was an option that required the automatic transmission option that year.

I was reading up on it too. It cuts certain injectors. But i think, thats why it only came with auto trannies. It has to have the TCM to communicate with. Oh well, no more TCS for me

umm, just a thought... did you guys that swapped to the 5spd that had 99's with autos and TCS... Did you also swap the ECU's? wouldnt that eliminate the link between the TCM, and therefore eliminate the functionality of TCS.

also, just another thought... why offer tcs in a 5spd (speaking mostly about i30's) when your lsd is doing the same thing mechanically.

oh, and aaron, my buddy up here with the crimson 99, has TCS... lol just thought youd be jealous to know!

Ever try driving in a heavy rain storm w/ LSD? Yeahhhh..... That 'ish don't do 'ish!

You got it backwards, he'd be jealous of me! I don't need no ECU/Module controlling my brakes and acceleration.

cant say I have, but slipping is slipping. traction control limits slip and a limited slip differential limits slip! lol go fig!

oh, and jarrod said he loved his lsd in the snow this past winter so im not sure what to think! i was jealous cause i did nothing but spin tires down to wires!

interesting fact... ive owned 2 5spds already... lol. i feel lucky! n yeah, id guess the i30 was a lot lower than the max since they are geared towards comfort and luxury!

so you're saying switching to the manual ECU would make the TCS work in a 5 speed car?

Nope. Most people swap to 5spd ECUs to get ride of the codes you'll have afterwards. Since you didn't, it means that the ecu isn't telling the tcm to use the tcs. It sure if that's because some of the sensors you no longer have or what but apparently your missing something...
