i cut off my muffler and welded on my greddy sp2, before i got full cat back piping, and it sat under the car and behind bumper. my only concern was melting the bumper. sound of exhaust is from the pipe diameter and muffler choice. if you're talking about a cut out, lots of people have those and are for mainly for FI, track days, or if you just wanna be loud and obnoxious. i also didnt like the look bc you have an empty hole in the rear bumper where the tip is supposed to be.
*cough use search next time cough*

Ill be dumping my exhaust right before the rear tire on my winter beater 4th gen. Right now it has no exhaust from the cat back and its not that loud but sounds annoying. Ill be making a mini muffler to help quiet things up

I had to take my muffler off when the hangers broke, I like how it sounded. I dont think it effects the back pressure cuz its so far down the exhaust

Flowmaster and Dynomax make some bullet race mufflers you can sometimes fit before the axle - similar to exhaust resonators. Here's a shot of 2 in series - non Maxima but you get the idea.

i dunno man. i drove my car home from the shop i used to work at with nothing from the cat back. it was loud enough for every "normal" person there to be laughing at how loud and annoying it was.
