Do alternators squeel/whine from 0-20mph? Or is it my belts?

Do alternators squeel/whine from 0-20mph? Or is it my belts?
Something's whining at cold start ups in front-passenger side of my car. I think its the belts, but why would they suddenly start whining? Is that normal sign of wear on belts?

Could be either one really. My jeeps alt whined before it died (not saying yours will). Also the belts could be dry. Maybe try some dressing? Does it whine at idle

Your alternator might be on its way out. I remember mine started to whine right before it blew. PITA to change out if you're doing it yourself but still doable.

LOL at "Cold Start ups" in Los Angeles. just kidding, im just jelly of your climate. Could be either or, check the tension on the belt and also for wear. that's probably the cheaper route to start.

DON'T put belt dressing on!! That only makes the belt sticky which will attract any dirt on the road and make the belt even worse.

on my 2nd alternator from napa, after it warms up and then sits it whines and i've even heard a loud whistle from time to time. maybe compressor bearing from non-use in winter?
