rotating motor manually

Ok I have been serching for a while now and have seen both answers. If I am changing out tensioner and guide which way do i turn crankshaft pulley? clockwise or counter? thanks for help

You have to turn clockwise only. Counter-clockwise and that's a big risk!

Why are you turning the shaft to replace a tensioner? Turning it clockwise will add slack where the tensioner is located and tighten up where the water pump is located. Counterclockwise does the opposite.

Too much of either (more than 30-ish degrees) and you might develop enough slack on the crank sprocket to slip a tooth, which certainly would ruin your day.

When I was changing my water pump I remember that I was suppose to turn counter clockwise to get some slack at the water pump. By turning it clockwise you can get slack at the tensioner/guides.
