95 Maxima GXE or GLE for $2400??
I dont know, I may still consider it, since its kinda reasonable and i really jus need a car to get around in for now, plus I can problay fix the rear valve cover gasket myself. Im pretty mechanically inclined and ive done most of the repairs on my 3rd gen myself, so ill probaly see if they can work something out. Just need something to get bak and fourth to work in right now. Do you guys honestly think I should go ahead and get this car?? Most of the issues I listed were pretty minor, and I love to work on my own car somtimes.

I think there are tons of other fish in the sea. Don't feel bad or let the sellers make you feel bad.
I got my 97 GLE for 2K at 112K miles, and the only problem with it was a cracked knock sensor. It wasn't until two years later that the big problems came rolling in.
The car you were planning to buy sounds like a money pit. Because as you work down your list of problems, you might discover new problems, or they might just pop up out of nowhere. At that age and from the problems you listed is sounded like the previous owners either planned to drive it till it dropped or did not care about it.
Either way, I think you can get a much nicer car. But ultimately its up to you!

well thanks for all the responses guys, I think I may just get it tho. First the guy wanted $2400, then I told him of all the issues, and then he went dwn to $1500. I didnt want to pay that much for it. I went back today and he says he will take $1000 for it. I drove it again for much longer this time, and I think I fell in love with it. It has some issues, but none which affect the driving. It has great pickup, everything works, cruise, heat, windows, ect. I was crusing down the rd at 85 mph. I think im going to get it.
I say that because they already told you they'd take 1K for it...so obviously they aren't getting any offers besides yours. If they really want to unload it, hammer them. EVERY LITTLE THING that is wrong, take notice and tell them about when they hem and haw about the price. Don't be a douche about it, but be firm and make it almost like a favor to them:
" Being realistic, with the car needing all this work, I am willing to give you more than what it is really worth for its condition. I am going to have to immediately get x, y, and z fixed at a shop to make it safe enough for me (and my family). My friends are actually advising me against buying the car due to all the issues with it, but I won't be going any higher than my original offer of 900"
^ something like that ^
And yeah, YOU may LOVE the car, but don't tell them that, they'll likely use your emotion to get you to pay more. Be noncommital. Don't tell them you will do work yourself (if you haven't already made mention of it). Quote parts + labor at SHOP PRICES on needed repairs.
300+400+500+400= 1600 worth of repairs. I took a WAG (wild-azz-guess) at prices except for the axles, since I got both of mine done when I bought the car.
It would behoove you to ask a local shop what they'd charge for those things, and get yourself some shop rate quotes.

the valve cover was leaking so bad it had the front and rear of the engine smoking, (easily 300 worth of repairs here) cv axles were bad on both sides, (easily 400 on this, I had to do mine) rear shocks were bad (all 4, around 500 or so?) plus the timing chain tensioner (easily another 400)
