knock sensor causing miss fire?

Hey guys, So I my CEL came on and went to auto zone and they told me that my knock sensor was bad and other codes for emissions. obviously im throwing emission codes because I took off my muffler, but now my motor feels like its running rough but they say its not miss firing. Basically can a bad knock sensor make my motor feel like its running rough?? thank you!

A bad KS will retard timing but the car will not run rough.

What are the codes they pulled?

A lean running cylinder can cause a misfire, but more than likely it's a defective coil pack......Maybe time for some new or newly used! Lots in the junkyard....fill your pockets and try some!

I have pulled alot of coil packs from a self service yard! and also found all new shocks on a max that had just been wrecked and got them for $30 a piece!! and sorry guys I am a little ignorant but I dont think its miss firing I think its the timing thats off. lol

why would you throw emissions codes by removing your muffler? is this possible? can someone confirm?

Ebay sensors are hit or miss though, ive bought two and off there and both were bad....better off hittin a junk yard with a multimeter and testing till you find a good one....would probably b even cheaper than the ebay ones...

Might get flamed for this but for a TEMPORARY test you could try the resistor to see if that helps. just a thought.
Ive been dealing with bad the darn P0325 code for awhile and will be testing out the resistor this week to see if it changes....then ill go either nissan or a parts house and get one....

Does ur car feel sluggish as it gains RPMS....like if u put ur foot down its like it tries but doesnt really wanna go.....Kinda like ur punching it with the parking brake on.

This........

Every maxima I've owned has had a resistor in it at one point. Hell 3.5 would pull timing with a32 ks in it

what were the other codes? just the fact that the car is running rough can throw the knock sensor code even if it's good. correct me if I'm wrong but the ks is a 'testing' sensor. in other words it's doing its job by telling you the motor has a knock which can happen when the motor runs rough. everyone always says the ks sensor is a piggy back or ghost code that usually is accompanied by other codes and won't turn on the ses by itself. if it is the only code in the ecu and the light is not on that's when you replace it.

Ya KS wont trip cel by itself.....mine hasnt ever n im still pullin code p0325 every time. Must b another code too......chuck a 470k ohm resistor in it n c if it goes away.....only a temp, diagnostic solutiin......i believe i saw a thread by aackshun where he soldered a resistor in a ks pigtail n that worked

I hope you're running premium.

Thanks for adding that.....i never put anything less than 91 in and thats only if 93 isnt available. i shouldve stated that with the resistor test in you should ONLY run premium to prevent as much knock as possible....

Also i did state its a temporary solution for diagnostic purposes....i do not condone running long term w/o a KS. They serve their purpose.

That said you can also test your KS with a multimeter.....

hey your codes said p1447 and p1448. the p1447 is 0111 which is the evap system but the p1448 is coming up as nothing. are you sure about the p1448?
I have the 0111 right now on my 98, described as the JACKPOT code cuz there are so many possibilities for that one. I did remove my charcoal canister and found that the charcoal was loose and I could poor it out so I dumped it all out and have ordered a new canister. didn't notice the lines having any loose charcoal in them but where do the lines rub to on the motor? I would like to take them loose from there and shoot some compressed air through them to make sure. and does that little black breather looking thing that runs to the back of the car have any value or serve a purpose? also noticed the bottom end was broken out. looked like there was a little screen or something that is loose in there also.
