willl not take more than one gallon of gas

Dear Everyone
I have a 99 Nissan maxima that will not take more than one gallon of gas before is spills out and the outside of the car smells like gas all of the time
I have no codes, I have power to the Canister Vent Valve I took valve off and bench tested it opens and closes fine.
I put it all back and it still will not take gas what should I look at now?
Also the car rpms jump at idle in drive and there is a dead spot from 3800rpms to 4000rpms and at best I am getting 19 to 20 mpg
But hay that is all lol
Thanks Matt

maby your fill tube is clogged or your just over filling the hell out of it ...or you have a breather thats stuck...if you put it in slowly to allow the air in it to excape does it still over flow?

If I put it in slow it will take 3/4 of a tank and not over flow So what should I look at?

Have you tried using other gas pumps at other stations, or do you usually fill up at the same station?

I was on a road trip last year, and coming back home I stopped into a gas station that had a pump that did basically the same thing.

Thats what I am going with...there has to be a "vent" of some sort thats plugged or kinked...how long has this been going on? Has it done it since you have owned the car?

I have owned the car for five years but last winter I parked it and now that it is out of storage it is doing this

Hmmm, I got nothing but that should help someone diagnose. Have you checked for kinks or plugged lines? As far as the idle jump and dead spot, try google search for it...when you google it, you should get a lot of results back from the org which should help. I am willing to bet it has been covered a lot.

im still goin with a stuck breather if it fills when ou put it in slowly and when you dont to over flows...its like filling your washer fluid tank if you dumpm it in the air cant excape and it create an air damn, so because the air isnt excaping from your fuel tank id say a vent or breather tube is clogged...whats your carbon canister look like...do you know?

Where is the breather? Could you please give me a pic of it. And the canister is as clean as new I took it off the car and it is light and look clean inside with a light. Thanks matt

I think the filler spil drain maybe be clogged (to little hole below the filler) unpugit fromthe tank and blow it out! Remove the filler tube to ensure it's clear all the way to the tank!
