Autozone injector won't fit

So I had an injector fail in my car and the shop was gonna get one from Nissan for $150. I told them hell no I'll get my own and replace it with a reman and return it later. I got one from autozone and when they went to put it in a big plastic shield with filter won't let it fit in the rail. Pep boys has the same one. What is wrong here?

Here is a picture. Te center section is the problem.

So I just had injectors replaced....and mine didn't have that...but it looks like a cap to me to protect the screening on the injector from the factory? Does that come off or is it formed to the injector? I would imagine you pop it off and install it as you would normally...

Hopefully someone else will pipe in.

Nope. You can see the screen at the bottom of it. It is fitted on an doesn't come off. Headed to Nissan now to get an oem but it is gonna be an extra $30 plus a two hour drive in traffic.

Bump

Anyone? The one I got direct from Nissan looks almost identical to the autozone one. Only difference is the top of that black center piece is a bit narrower and the screens are a bit larger. Im going to the shop first thing in the morning to get my friend to show me exactly why it wouldn't fit.

The head of the injector is slightly bigger (meaning the top red part). It will fit with some force but will chip at the end of it as it goes down. Been there, done that and just got rid of it and bought OEM ones.

Nope, went there this morning and sure enough, the hole in the head where the injector slides into stops it before it gets all of the way in because of that large plastic bit in the center. No one, even at Nissan, has a clue why its all different but I just ordered an overnighted reman from rockauto. At this point I hvae about $300 in returns to make once this is finally done with.

Is there any chance the black plastic shroud has fallen off and is left in the injector hole?

This doesn't make much sense to me now. If you are trying to ask why its not going in flush with the rail, its because the cover has to push it down. You screw in little by little from side to side and it will go down flush.

The stock one slide right in with no problems. Screwing it down will start to crush that screened area.

Yeah those fit with no problems. The AZ one the top red part starts to crack when it goes down. That's what I was explaining earlier.

Ohhh.. Well new part comes in tomorrow and im going to take them all back up there and try them out. I just didn't want to damage anything and not be able to return it. The one I got from rockauto is a reman that looks like the stocker so I am hoping it slides right in. Then I can return all of the other bull**** I bought.

. Maybe we need to create a thread with commonly replaced parts and where to get them like rear brake calipers and CV Axles.

If people look in the stickies theres something simiar there..if people feel the need to make a thread it should be for parts that should only be OEM replaced and places to buy specific hard to find aftermarket parts..

In my experience autozone parts are garbage ive had a few issues.with parts from advanced but maybe once or twice. Most of the time if i use advanced its becuase of their warranties and i know if it doesnt fit they have no issue giving me a refund

Well I did not want to go pay $150 for a part people sell on here commonly for $20. I was in a hurry and it has come back to bite me in the ***. I hate stealerships and always will. And either way, they had the same damn wrong part so this was Nissans **** up.

If they sold you the wrong part for the year and model provided on the paper, they are suppose to take it back. If its correct, then I know it was going to be difficult. Most of them state that you cannot return electrical parts.

This.....

Some things you can get by with but I wouldn't buy a injector from them. Fwiw you can usually find some dirt cheap ones off someone who just did a 00vi swap or 3.5 swap

It was a matter of time. I did not want to wait for shipping. Now its a moot point.

And about it being the wrong part, nissan sells a clone of the AZ ones. They will take it back because I know the service writer and many other guys up there and we had a long discussion about it before hand trying to figure out why the hell nissan would change it so much.
