Remote start
Remote start
Hello everyone, Im new to this forum... First post. Hoping you guys can help me with this.
I have a 1998 Maxima and I installed a remote start system on it.
It works like this: Press remote to start > Car attempts to start > If the car does not start it will attempt again > System will keep attempting to start until car finally starts (some cars are a slow start so it has to try a few times before it starts)... Heres my issue, the system only knows that the car is running if there is voltage to a specific wire... I can connect the wire to a power source that is always hot, but this allows the car to try only once and then turn off since it will think that it has successfully start...
To fix this issue, I need to find a power source that is ONLY HOT WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING (sorry for the caps)... I, however, cannot seem to find that source... It says in the manual to circle the wire 5 or 6 times around a high voltage engine wire... But I dont know where that is.
Anyone have any ideas? Help would be appreciated!

I live in an area with no human beings for as long as the car can travel...
I know its hooked up right, I just need to find a power source thats only hot when the car is running, and only running.
Any thoughts anyone?

That wire your referring to is the tach wire. Run it into the engine bay to any injector and hook up to the uncommon wire. Meaning all injectors will have a common wire (same color) and all will
have a different wire. Don't use a t-tap or sctoch lock, strip some insulation and wrap + solder if possible tape well and your good. Then you just need to program it to read the signal. I would not recommend tapping into a 12v wire at all.

Check your remote start installation manual for instructions on how to wire when there are no "high voltage" wires available. Just wrapping the detector wire around a "low voltage" wire that is only on when the engine is running is unlikely to generate enough of a signal to allow the unit to operate properly. Coil on plug engines are getting more and more common, so they must have allowances for it. Good luck!!
