I have a 97 maxima with 167xxx miles on it and Fri drove the car all day no problems parked it and later that night went to get my gf from work and clutch went right to the floor. I got out and checked the fluid it was full the next thing I Tryed was bleeding the clutch did that and that didn't work so the I replaced the slave cylinder and master cylinder and then bled the clutch once again and fig after that it would be fixed but i was wrong so now I'm stuck and dunno what to do or where to turn??? Ne help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks once again Plz help!!! O yeah the clutch and throwout bearing was replace Jan 18th 2011. And I used dot 4 fluid for the new slave and master cylinder and bleeding.

Also when it sticks to the floor I have to pull it back up with my hand and there's no pressure at all when pushing the pedal down.

Also I've never had any trouble from the clutch with it slipping or sticking before

Check for a leak in the clutch line (trace it from the master cylinder to the transmission). I had that happen, and had a growing leak in the line. I replaced it with a SS line.

I would check the clutch master cylinder. It may have blown the seals.

Watch the slave culture while you gf pushes the pedal. If the lever moves about an inch you pressure plate is probably toast.

Ok back to where i started replaced the master cylinder and the slave cylinder and bled them both but the pumping the pedal and holding it to the floor didnt work... i actually un loosend the bleeder screw and push pedal to floor and once it was to the floor tightened the bleeder screw back up did it sevral times and it finally work and got pressure back... But today it started falling to the floor agian it will spring back up if i push the pedal down real quick if not i gotta pull the pedal back to the top with my foot the car can be drove its just a pain in the *** to do it that way was gonna bleed it agian but what would cause air to get back in it and do that??? I mean the fluid level in the mc is full hasnt moved and the mc and slave cylinder are brand i drove the car for about 2 and a half weeks and bam all of a sudden its doing this now... any ideas or suggestions ???

Master or slave cylinder might be defective, I work at an auto parts store and had happened to few of my customers that they are defective, if I was you I would exchange the parts bleed the system again and go from there. Just my 2 cents...

Ok well didn't have time to look at it but a so called mechanic looked at it said he pulled the boot of of the sc and fluid came outta it but dunno I bled it 2 days ago so dunno if that's where the fluid came from also when i press the clutch pedal down fast a little air is leaking outta the top of the fluid resovior from the ms like the cap don't seal really good but it was fine for 2 weeks up until 2 days ago what would cause these things to happen and also cause them to go bad so fast its only been 2 weeks I've been driving the car??? Also I was told driving with a bad SC would mess my clutch up is that true I mean I change gears and as soon as I'm done pick the pedal back up with my foot never let it just rest on the floor if that's true def don't wanna drive the car the clutch is a lil more than a yr old but what would cause these parts to fail like that and why would it do it and will driving with a bad SC mess up my clutch up???

Just sounds like air. I recently replaced a clutch and a friend help me bleed it for about 30 mins since the pedal kept sinking to the floor. Finally we got all the air out. It was also losing fluid from the washers that connect to the slave, tightened that up also and that helped, so like others said just check the connection lines for leaks since the cylinders are new. Since there was fluid on the boot there is enough pressure for the fluid to mist out if the washers that are on the sc are old/reused.

hopefully it will be an easy fix i mean if it is the sc thats not to bad but the mc is kinda a pain but i think the worst pita is the bleeding lol !!! But im gonna check it out tomorrow ill keep you all posted and go from there. Thanks.

Did you ever get this figured out? Im going through the same **** now and it's frustrating. Replaced the MC, SC and took out the hard lines for a SS braided line about a year ago. I noticed the SC boot was ripped and leaking so I replaced it with a new SC yesterday. Bled the lines several times and still no pedal life. The clutch pedal gets pulled to the floor by itself. I've read several posts about this and no one really comes back with a solution. I've seen posts that recommend a new PP but why would a bad PP stop the hydraulic system from completely pushing the clutch fork? Im thinking about replacing everything again (MC, SC, SS line) before dropping the transmission.

Please elaborate. The pp springs (diaphragm) is what pushes the pedal back to the top of its travel.

You push the clutch pedal about 3/4 of the way and it gets pulled to the floor by itself, like its being sucked in. The pedal remains on the floor until you pull it back up with your foot.

Is the clutch fork moving when you press the pedal? Sounds like pressure plate to me.

Not moving much. Im not sure if that's due to a bad SC or MC, it seems like the SC isnt getting enough pressure to push the fork. No matter how many times I bleed it, I cannot get the clutch pedal to get any "life".
