wow my harmonic balancer came off and shredded my belt!!!

95 max here was at the car wash trying to adjust my idler pulley when I got it all bak togather, the squealing stopped when I started it up, then the idler pulley shifted so I turned it off. Then tightened the pulley locknut, started it up, then a few seconds later something went crazy so I turned it off. Looked underneath to find alt belt shredded, and part of harmonic balancer hanging off. Omg! Trying to see if I can get it bak on to make it home, only part of the belt was shredded. I don kno what to do

How far are you from home? You can remove the belts and drive a couple miles. Be careful you dont go to far and drain the battery. try zip tying the outer and inner part of the balancer together, if you cannot remove the outer.

Well thank goodness I was just right across the street from my house. I managed to salvage the alt/ac belt I thought it was torn in half but only a thin section was taken off. The harmonic balancer still had a sticky film on it so I managed to push it back onto the inner section. Put the idle pulley on and started the car up and drove it home now squeaking louder. Is it safe to drive like that?

I'm thinking it snapped because I put the idle pulley on backwards. So I put it bak on the other way.

If you remove the belts first, you can drive it to the shop if you must. otherwise keep it parked.

At this point, replace the harmonic balancer pulley if it already separated. You will regret it later if you are further from home.

The crank pulley is two pieces. You will need to replace it. It can't be fixed or rigged. If you keep driving it you could damage a whole lot more. It also has timing teeth which need to be there or the engine will not run.

Well I don't want that to happen, how hard is it to remove? I don't have any air tools jus basic tools. Is there a procedure in which to remove and replace, gotta get it running right asap.

Air impact would be best, but you can use the starter method to break the crank pulley bolt loose. Put the socket, a long breaker bar and a lenght of pipe on the nut, set it against the garage floor, and blip the starter to break the bolt loose. Make sure you get the direction of rotation correct - you want the handle turning into the floor in the same direction the engine turns.
