muffler-only recommendation please

A local shop is willing to make a custom exhaust system including the Y-pipe and everything else back to the muffler. They will use 2" stainless tubing.

I need a muffler, and would like a performance improvement if I can get it, but I don't want to sacrifice much in the way of noise. I have a 1998 SE five-speed and don't push it very hard on the acceleration end. Can't remember ever trying to see how fast I could go 0-60. I like to zip away from a light now and then, but I never try to get the maximum.

Please recommend a quality stainless muffler that I can use to finish the system.

Links would help.

Thanks!

How come your going with 2" tubing? why not 2.5"? I would go with a magnaflow muffler like this one.

Bigger is better, no?

Better would be an understanding on exhaust system scavenging.

for an n/a car 2.5 is perfect size. any thing more is over kill. plus look at it this way, just in case you ever decide to go supercharged, you have a decent size exhaust that IMO is good for just about 350hp.

2.5 is generally good up to 250hp def not 350. I know no cars with over 300 that have under 2.5". Get a 2.5" Magnaflow. Good, cheap and warrantied

Magnaglow is going to be loud, go with Apexi WS2... its quiet at idle almost as quiet as stock but when you step on it it sounds nice and throaty.

i'm with most on the tube diameter, 2.5 would be best since your redoing the piping (might as well do it now instead of redoing it later). with the 2.5 pipe size, there will be less "raspy-ness" coming out of your muffler. as for mufflers, i wouldnt go with magnaflow. for some reason, IMO, that brand just sticks out like a sore thumb as a no no for our cars. dont ask why, its just something that i feel/see it.

how much are you willing to spend for a muffler? IMO all mufflers (in stock N/A applications) are pretty much the same in "HP" gains. the gains your getting are from removing the cats, the muffler in your situation will probably be more for sound (reducing it). in this case any muffler will do, reason i say any is because of the motor (V6) so it really wont sound as terrible as a 4cyl with a stock 1.5 pipe and muffler.

so to answer your question, IMO, any muffler will do for you
