New to forum and bulb question.

Hey guys, new here.
I have a '98 GLE that I am planning to do some modifications to. Nothing huge.

I am planning to replace the light bulbs in the inside and outside of my car with LED's. I already purchased them on ebay and I got one that I thought fit for my map light but it doesn't. Does anybody know the correct bulb size?

It's not a BA9.
The old bulb looked like this:

Thanks!

You have a couple of choices. You can buy #1895 at any parts store but it is significantly dimmer than the factory one...i believe the 1895 is only 3 or 4 watts as opposed to the 10W of the factory one. Or, you can go to the dealer and get an OEM one which was about $5 the last time i checked.

Here are a couple of LED links that I think will work for you

those'll work...but for my map lights I bought ones like these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-T10-BA9S...item2321603e16

they come with adapters so you can put them in other places as well should you so choose

edit - And if you want some more LED work done, like window switches, climate control...w/e, PM me

Does the one you bought physically fit in the socket?

If so, did you turn the thing around 180* and try again?

no, the base fits right in, and it's got 3m sticky on the back side...simply place it inside the map light housing and you're good...and yes it IS a BA-9 base btw...just pushes in and turns, no clue why you're having trouble. Post a pic of the LED base next to the original bulb base you had?

It's Possible.

Do like Amerikaner said and post a pic of your new bulb beside your old one.

Its hard to tell in the pic but they both look the same size. Let's back track a little...you know for sure the OEM bulb is blown and that the fuse is not popped?? Sometimes the easiest things are quickly overlooked.

I mean, I am having a hard time figuring out why the new one won't work since it's the right one...unless you got a bad bulb, OR you have a bad fuse.

OP,

iirc, the MAP light is wired in reverse polarity, aka Nissan wired the positive in the negative location on the socket and vica versa for the negative wire. And LED's need to be plugged in in a certain manner to contact the correct terminals. (this is all IIRC from when I was researching LED's about 2 years ago).

This can easily be solved by using an LED board with a 2 piece connector (click the LED thread in my sig..MAP light info is in the first paragraph) or by rewiring the contacts for the MAP light socket.

Again, this is all IIRC....if I am wrong feel free to correct me

yes, i know the OEM bulb is blown and the fuse isn't blown because there is only one fuse for the "room lights" not just the map lights. my dome light works fine.

I'll try it again, other wise im going to order the adapter LED kit.

I don't know how I didn't take advice?

-They told me to check the fuse=I looked at the fuse
-They reminded me about the polarity, etc.=I turned the bulb and checked the size (including posting pictures at their request)

OP, since you disregarded what ive said twice, here is another attempt at helping you. When you use the male-to-female connector, connect them like..
P>>>>N
N>>>>P

Nissan wired the MAP socket in what seems to be reverse polarity..meaning where a normal bulb would make + contact, nissan made this contact a - ......... and visa versa. So when you plug an LED into the socket its making the wrong contacts to power it. This can be fixed by the method above.

MAP: I used one(1) 20 SMD panel [some cars have two(2) map lights, with these you would need two small panels (one for each light) the panel's would need to be around a 9 SMD each]. I purchased the 20 SMD panel a few months ago, and have not been able to find them for cheap lately, they've all been around $10 (F that). If I had to get a new panel for my map and couldnt find a 20 SMD piece I would go with a 12 instead. This is what I used in my map light. LINK. I dont have any pics of just the MAP light right now (had to send my camera to Canon for repair). But when you order it be sure to get the one with the BLACK connector piece's. Also, once you receive the MAP panel, when you plug it directly in it will not work. Something about the way the MAP is wired, but you will need to switch connector around from the BA9S plug and the panel...like this
P>>>N
N>>>P

Instead of plugging them up like normal

DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE VEHICLE AS YOU CAN CREATE A SHORT. But Nissan decided to wire the socket in a rather odd way thus causing this work in this specific situation

So I have to use one with the panel and adapters?

I just bought this then: http://www.ebay.com/itm/150883810838...84.m1497.l2649

Its only a couple of bucks, no biggie.

That is one choice, the easier choice. Its also the way I explain in this thread
http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...-write-up.html

Ive seen older thread from a few years back where guys were reversing the connections in the map light piece....but I didnt want to do that and risk messing up my sunroof control unit.
