maf crapped again. is something doing it?

to compound on my older problem, months later, tonight infact, i decided to hop into the maxima thats been sitting for almost 3 months now and fire it up for ****s n giggles. she started right up like usual, and then began stumbling like usual and died about half a minute later... i go into my hood and unplug the maf, fired up again and she ran nice and smooth.

i think to myself... hmmm this might really be the maf... it pisses me off because i just bought this one a year ago from a guy with a totaled i30. the maf still appears brand spanking visually... but its always the same story when i hop into the car, maf out = smooth until it dies of not having a maf, or plugged in and rough. if i unplug or plug during idle it just dies.

so now im starting to wonder, did i just buy a crappy maf on its way out AGAIN?? or did something else in the wiring go wrong and eventually killing any maf i throw in there??? is that possible?? how ****ed am i for fixing this car?

I seriously doubt that the wiring is causing you problem. Buying a used part is always a gamble. The older it is, the less life it has left. But unplugging the MAF sure sounds like it is the problem.

doubt the wiring has gone bad.

Silly question: have u tried cleaning the maf yet? if not def do that.

But def sounds like a bad MAF.

Go to the junkyard and.find one. Keep replacing them until you get a good one. It'll only take a handful of tries and still much much MUCH cheaper than dealer. And only use oem maf. No eBay garbage, not even oem looking ads... the oe replacement maf off eBay sucks

when mine went bad it red lined at 2500rpm and barely wanted to take off and died if i gave it too much gas. lucked out and paid $38 for one junk yard with 82,000 miles.

Another solution is a rebuilt/refurbished Nissan OEM MAF - more expensive than aftermarket, but less than a new OEM. I got one about 18 mos ago from autopartsexpress.com and it has been fine; about $150 after core. You should also replace the isolator (thick rubber piece between MAF and throttle body); about $15 from Nissan.
