Partial suspension overhaul...highly recommended!

Hi Guys:

Was tired of hearing all kind of noises on my front suspension...So I ordered a suspension kit from e-bay ($ 104 USD). It included for both sides, LOWER CONTROL ARMS, INNER-OUTER TIE RODS, SWAY BAR LINK KITS...And while doing that, I also ordered a Front Strut tower bar ($31 USD)...
Paid $75 USD for labor, which also included alignment.

Took it for a spin, and oh, I was pleasantly surprised on my new ride quality. Much more solid feel over bumps, you can heard the bumps but not feel them...Before this, the bumps make the whole car vibrate and made the chassis flex a lot, I used to clinched my butt on every medium size pothole LOL.

Now, I need to get STEERING RACK, SWAY BAR bushings and my worn engine mounts (F & R) replaced to get most suspension parts replaced and feel that new car ride again.

Still feel the body roll, but I will get the REAR SWAY BAR to improve it.

I highly recommend the overhaul to all my fellow 4th gen owners.

Peace!

a lot of those control arms kits are the same kit. have this kit sitting around with coilovers but too busy to take a day to do everything. im guessing there will be problems.

kk_kalina, it is really worth it...If you get Energy suspension bushings, the better...On the kit I've bought, the sway bar end links look too soft, but I figured I can change those later, they are not that expensive and not that hard to install.

Other than that, the LCA's (Which already included new ball joints by the way), look very sturdy and solid.

Another improvement I've noticed is wheel hoop, it is almost gone. I have a 5 spd, and on launch I used to get the wheel hoop badly, now it's just a little vibration, and off you go.

To get my front end renewed for 104 USD in parts , I say it has worth every penny.

Peace!

GGENIUS, there will be trouble...I watched the whole installation and I was thinking "How could I ever do that?" Without the proper power tools and the expertise, it is better to leave it to a professional. I have a good brakes & suspension mech, so I don't fool around with these things and loose 2 or more days.

By the way, I've been thinking on getting some 350z 18's...Did your ride get to harsh when you installed? Did the handling improved noticeably?

I'm amazed you found someone to do that job for $75. Whoever did it for that regretted it I'm sure - and that is assuming that all the parts came off easily.

I have all the right tools and it took me the better part of a day. Most of that was because I had to burn the bushing out of the lca to get the fork out, then had to dremel off the sleeve. But the biggest PIA was the damn tie rod ends.

The only other thing I would say to others is to be wary of the cheap kits . . . unless you can get someone to install for $75 lol.

I´m in Mexico, labor is way cheaper than in USA, less specialized but we are kings of creativity, and my mech is very capable...By the way, he did it like nothing, no fancy tools LOL.

The kit has been holding up , pretty well I must say.

How much does the front end overhaul job usually cost for you guys in the US? I was quoted 400 for labor.

i am a "professional." i have a 30 gal compressor at my house with any air tool you need. but i know that theres gonna be problems and i dont have any extra money, or downtime to have no car, at this moment. soon though.

but yeah how did you get a shop to do all that for 75 bucks? usually JUST an alignment costs atleast that.

the 18s are sweet but they immediately started waring on my suspension the second i put them on. and potholes are ****in terrible. you can feel every bumps, compared to stock 15s. but when i do a suspension overhaul with coilovers i hope most of these problem subside. either way they look sick.

They do look sick man...But I'm worried about ride quality...I guess it's a give n take LOL.

75 USD equivalent to 900 mexican pesos...In Mexico, labor is not expensive WHEN you compare it with US shops. That's why some clever USA people cross the border for mechanics, dentists, Plastic surgery, etc...Have some relatives in Palm desert that come regularly for the dentist.

Hahaha, I meant people near the border. Actually, there's another group of people that work in USA and live in Mexicali, or Tijuana. Even if you worked on a Burger King or Wal-Mart, you can live OK in Mexico.
