Security system and wireless remotes not working
Security system and wireless remotes not working
Hello forum members.
I have a 1995 Maxima SE. One day my security system and wireless remotes just stopped working. I have 3 relatively new wireless remotes programmed the same and none of them would work. I am sure the remotes are not the problem. The security system red LED next to power mirror switch does not flash when car is locked. The security system LED will not turn on. This worked before (as it should) when locking all doors with the power locking switch with ignition off.
All other electrical items (clock, radio, vanity lights, power windows and door locks, etc.) work perfectly as they should.
As suggested by other posters on this board, I pulled 3 fuses (#40. 12. and 19) and checked them with the continuity checker on an ohmmeter and they check out 100%.
Does anyone have any idea of what the problem could be or how to troubleshoot this?

Since everything else works, first thing to check is the "Multi-Remote Control Unit" (LCU-05). It is a square box mounted right next to the power antenna in the pass side of the trunk. This box basically receives the signals from your remotes and feeds information via the LAN to the Body Control Module. The BCM controls windows, locks, alarm, and about a million other things.
The LCU-05 does control the remote trunk release directly (w/o going thru the BCM) - does the remote trunk release work?? If not, that is another indication that the LCU-05 is the bad unit. Good luck.

Update:
In my last post I neglected to state that I disconnected by battery for 10 minutes to reset my BCM. I tried the remotes after this but no response.
I disconnected and reconnected the remote receiver unit in the trunk. I tried the remotes after this but no response.
After this I tried to go into remote programming mode. My flashers flashed and I was able to program the remotes. My keyless entry is now working!!!! I'm not sure what fixed it but it now works.
The security LED is still dead and the security system still does not work. I could care less about that. At his point I'm going to consider everything working.
Thanks for helping with my problem.

Just for the heck of it I'll throw in what fixed my problem.
My door sensor switch on my drivers door was shorted out and wouldn't detect when the door opened, or shut; which is needed for successful programming.
I swapped out the switch, and my programming problems were over.
Maybe this will help somebody...
