What is the air box that MAF goes into called?
Hi,
When cleaning my MAF yesterday I noticed that the plastic box that the MAF goes into (on the side of the throttle body) has some cracks around the shroud with the fins on it that inserts into the end of the MAF. It looks like they have been siliconed up previously but this obviously hasn't lasted. The car seems to be running ok apart from using a fair bit of fuel currently. I put a bit more silicone on it for the moment.
Can someone please tell me what this is called so I can phone around some wreckers for a replacement. It may be sealing but i'm guessing that if air does get into the system past the MAF then it will adversely affect performance.
Cheers,
Mark

you may be seeing cracks in the rubber collar ring. that ring usually gets cracks at the end that don't have any effect on engine airflow or operation. the seal is separate from the resonator. if it's the seal, save your money.

Thanks guys. The cracks are at the base of 3 of the "tabs" that are created by the factory slits in the hard plastic that are mentioned. It is the plastic that is cracked, not the rubber seal that goes over it. The factory slits I guess create weak points in that these sections or tabs can shear off. Hope that makes sense.
This is next to where the rubber seal goes over so still potential to leak air into the system I think. I'd say someone has been flexing it too much when trying to get it all of in one piece rather than properly dismantling it.
