auto headlight function..?
auto headlight function..?
dose anyone know if the 99 max came with the wires to install the auto headlight function? and I would need the switch and the dash pieces correct? thanks. ( sorry guys I'm kinda new here.. I had an 01 max before this one and it had all the functions)
Thanks for the help in advance.

The 99 didn't offer the auto headlight option, so there is no wiring for it. The auto headlight feature uses a Headlamp Saver Control Unit and an Auto Light Control Unit. It uses part of the Smart Entrance Control Unit that the 4th gen doesn't have as well as having wires to the ECU.
I suppose it might be possible but almost everything under the dash would have to be replaced - wire harnesses, BCM, SECU, ECU and god only knows what else. Because of the light sensor that is used, even the defroster duct may have to be changed.
That's too much work for me, I'd go buy another car that had the feature.

These 2 features are not the same at all.
The daytime running lamps (DTRL) is required on Canadian cars. You don't find them in the US too often. There is an added box/module under the hood for this. I'm pretty sure the wire harnesses under the hood are different because of this extra module. Plus the way the DTRL works is to light up the high beam headlight at half intensity. With DTRL, the lights are on whenever the ignition is on, you have no control over this.
The auto headlight function is different. It uses a light sensor to turn on the low beam headlights when the sun has set. The headlight switch has an additional position for this feature so you can use it or not.

The red led is part of the security system. When you lock the doors, the light should blink slowly. If the car won't start and the red light is on solid, you have been "immobilized" by the security. This will happen if someone tries to start the car with a key that is not programmed into the car's ECU.

I think you are referring to the sun load sensor if you have digital climate control.
As far as I know, there is no sensor for the running lights. If there were and the lights came on at full intensity at night, you have to remember that these are the high beams, the bright lights. So I really don't think so.
