1996 maxima Auto starter problems.
Ive been having problems with my starter connection i believe.
On cold starts my starter wouldnt click until like the third try and it will crank upbut not smoothly. I would have to give it some gas for it to turn on. Now its been 2 weeks on a cold start i would turn the key and nada. Not even a click. Today the starter got stuck so i hit it a couple times n it started up right up. Anyone know what might be the problem? The starter looks fine to me. Im thinking it might be a connection failure. Battery is brand new and the alternator works.

If the long cranks have been around for some time it might just be the starter. How old is it? These starters dont last on long cranks. Does it get hot quickly when trying to start? If it does just replace it. When you do clean the mating surface with sand paper before installing new one.
Might also be key switch. If you wiggle key while starting does it get better? If so change it out. 30 bucks and 20 minutes.
If ECT sensor is old and this only happens on cold mornings try to change it out. Should be around 30 bucks and 10 minutes to change. While it is out make sure you have new copper gasket and clean surface of engine before installing.
If it runs rough after start up could be IACV or TB. Take them off and clean them with throttle body cleaner not carb cleaner. Be sure to get the back side of TB too. Spray through the vac ports as well. Install with new gaskets.
