Creaking Noise From Engine

Ok, this is going to be difficult to describe but I am going to try. When I have the radio and everything off so it is complete quiet in the car I hear a creaking noice from the engine when I first apply the throttle. This is mostly from places such as stop signs and always after the car warms up. It is very faint but I can reproduce it over and over. If I put the car in neutral it does not make the noice. If I am in drive but stopped with the brakes on and apply throttle it makes the noise. When the car is off and I press the gas it doesn't make it. Any ideas? Worth a trip to the dealer since its still under warranty? I don't think its anything bad but wanted to check first.

Well then, it looks like I am off to the dealer sometime this week. Anyone else have any thoughts?

You say it creaks when you have the brake pedal depressed and step on the gas, or when you leave from a stop?

It could be an engine mount based on that description. Other things to check would be suspension. . .

Either way, if you're under warranty, it's all good - let them deal with it.

Its does it both times. I hear the noise when I am just pressing the gas after I come to a near complete stop and when I am sitting still with my foot on the brake in drive and I press the gas.

pressing on gas and brake at the same time

isnt it incredibly bad for your brakes to press the gas and step on the brakes at the same time?

I really doubt it does any damage since I am not even reving the engine to 2k. I really don't see how that could be worse than hitting the brakes going 80+ MPH. The thing is prolly isn't good for is the tranny but this is just to let people hear the problem I am having.

Nah, I only have to move up 200 RPMs or so to make the noise. (not a typo, really any RPM increase at all will make the sound)

Sounds like an Motor mount could be broken or loose. Put the car in Park,,, pop the hood and rev the car on the inside of the engine compartment,, rev it to about 3-5ooo rpms ,,,, if you see the motor rock back and forth a little too much... its a motor mount,, but just maybe neeeds to be tightenin .

Good Luck

I did that this morning and the engine rocked just under an inch or so but it wasn't too bad. How much should it move? I tested out reverse and it didn't make the noise.

I stared getting exactly the same thing. It only happends when you're in Drive. It's even worse when you go from Drive to Reverse and only when the engine is warm. My guess is it's the mounts (either engine or trans) since it only happends when there is load on engine not in nautral. Let me know what the dealer says.

I think I have the same problem as you.

Is it a SQUEAL or SQUEAK?

Does it happen at the same throttle postion?

Like if your doing 30 does it still happen?

I would go to the dealer.. then you can tell me what my problem might be.

I have yet to figure it out. Had it for 2 months

It's a squeak. It only happens when u start driving or shift from D to R. It's a combination of rubber and matal sound. How much are engine and trans mounts for '97 ?

i get a thunk noise, sounds mostly metallic in nature, like metal thunking against metal. it only happens when I shift from R to D, and when I am in R, and hit the gas, it thunks (sounds like the engine is loose). I had ht ehood open once with someone mashing the brake and e-brake on, while i lightly hit the throttle (car was in R), and could hear the noise loud and clear, sounded like it was coming from near the firewall area. The mechanic said nothing was wrong though!

My sound is like a door hinge creaking. Its not a squeal or a squeak. I will take it later this week and see what they say.

And it only happens when I take off from a stop (or near stop). Nothing at higher speeds.

Looks like you have the same problem as I do. I took it to the mechanic and he said nothing was wrong as well. He said wait until something breaks then we'll know. This is very annoying. Did anybody take their car to he dealer yet? What did they say?
