ridiculous!!! 80 bux to turn a rotor...
who in gods name even wastes their time doing this anymore?? you can get replacement rotors cheap as hell nowadays, reason i bring this up is because my right front caliper's piston seal broke and they wanted 50.00 on up to 80.00 bux to cut the rotor.
not to mention my caliper is shot as well as the pads. so, i got a loaded caliper, ( with pads and all hardware ) for $44.82 and thought, hmmm, should i replace the rotor too??
its only anotther $23.00 from autozone and its a wearever rotor. looks like the meley rotor i have still has alot of meat but scratched up and a tiny bit warped. replace both or just the caliper?

Both of them..replaced my rotors with AZ duralast and OEM pads and I see score lines on them and will be swapping out in a week or so...lol Want mine to be just as smooth as newer cars...not sure of caliper causes these thiings or cheap metal of the rotor...

Thanks to Nissan, the caliper doesnt make full contact with aftermarket rotors. All 4 of my rotors from Advanced now have a inner and outer rust ring. So ugly.
I would paint the rotors a silver color after I cleaned them and right before I installed it. Or just get rotors that dont rust

Because the 4th gen caliper doesnt apply the pad to the entire surface of the rotor. (Im guessing, most logical reason in my head). This happens to other manufacturers aswell obviously but not to the extent it is on my maxima. My dads toyota and mercedes have literally no rust. Where as the rust on my brothers honda and VW have very little to none.
Literally every Nissan, I've seen on the street has these huge rings(Including mine) . Irks the hell out of me. If i would have known this was going to happen I probably would have bought rotors that didn't rust up.
But then again what doesnt rust out on our cars

This is why I'm glad I live in the south. My Maxima has no rust. Even on the rotors there is hardly ever any, and the little bit that gets there comes off after the car is driven.
But to add on to the original post, that price is ridiculous. I'm putting performance rotors and ceramic pads all around on my car in a month or two and it will only cost $200. Stuff like that is just so cheap now a days. Not sure if it's higher rate of production or poorer quality.

rotors are bound to rust, they're metal. especially if they sit and it rains or is very humid. i will agree that more of the surface could have been used for the pad, rotors are pretty big, but i think that's for heat displacement. the smaller they are, the more they heat up and wear out quicker.

now as you all know, i just spent around 2,000 between inspection and body work/paint so i'm taking a chance cause the rotors are still somewhat new. last night i had to drop off my car to my mechanic for the brake repairs and looked at the roof where the body shop taped off and noticed he fuked up and left a paint line, nice and thick and noticable right where the water drain is. he also broke my remote receiver in my trunk and my remote has'nt worked since. i was so happy with the paint job until last night. i'm going back to him today and showing him that screw-up on the roof and telling him i want the remote problem fixed too.

ummm there are rotors out there that are lot more than $20... so in that case... yes you just pay to get them turned... the zimmermans on my a4 about $180 each... but I agree $80 to turn a flywheel??? yes, but for a rotor... NO
DO yourself a favor and spend a few more $$$ on at least Centric rotors... there is a reason why Autozone rotors are cheap... when it comes to brakes the little extra $ goes a long way... Last time I had rotors cut was last year on my old A6 and the shop charged me a respectable $25 for both

How can you tell rotors are warped other than if there are obvious grooves? If I remember correctly the last time I did a break job the mech said my rear rotors were at spec and they could not be turned anymore, no spare "meat" left to grind smooth. Can you get away it if there are no visible grooves?
