O2 Sensor!!! Questions?

Hey guys. I don't know too much stuff about all these sensors, but I had a check engine light come on and found out it was an O2 sensor. Is it bad if I continue driving without replacing it? Does it do more damage to my car if I prolong it?

Same here

I have the seem thing happen to me the only thing that'll happen is you'll get terrible gas mileage. But you'll be ok till you can get it replaced. The sensors sends a signal to the injectors to maintain proper ratio. So you're ratio will be screwed and you'll run richer(burn more gas)

Its said that your car will use more fuel. I had my rear 02 sensor trip the ECU trouble code so I reset the ECU and it didn't come back. The car is running fine.

Thats probably an estimate to replace all three sensors, it may only be 1 of the 3 though. They are just a lil over $100 bucks each

Re: Sensors

Humor me.

What kind of gas are you guys running? I was cheating for a while with 87, got the knock sensor and o2 sensor code, reset the ECU, only used 91 plus gas and haven't had the light come back on. Making sure your using the right gas is worth a shot with this common o2 sens. problem...

Re: Re: Sensors

I always use 91+ and I've had a past of O2 sensors going out on my 95 max. like i said before, i had this light come on once then went out...but came on again and stayed on ever since. i'm doing about 300 max miles before next fill-up. don't know if that's avg or less because of my O2 sensor out. anyway, i hope it won't ruin my car. haha.

replacing an O2 Sensor is easy... just jack up the passengers side front tire.. then look under the car.. you will see them.. you need a 22" open ended wrench... then follow it up to the engine compartmenet for the electrical connector and then replace

Re: Re: Re: Sensors

Interesting. I still got 425-450 - highway miles even when my CEL was on for the o2 and knock sensor (pure NJ highway commuting miles)

It won't ruin your care, but your o2 sensor is probably shot...

The O2 sensor itself doesn't have the threads for the hole on it does it? If not, is the "housing" with the threads a seperate part that I can order from Nissan (I'm talking about the rear O2 sensor).

Hmm, I'll have to look into it. I just bought a new rear sensor for my 97, and it isn't threaded...

fun...

I just replaced the front bank (LH) O2 sensor on my car this past weekend. Took about one minute to remove the sensor, but about 20 minutes to get those three plastic clips out from the old mounting harness. Mileage is back up again (got 14 MPG before)...CEL is off and hasn't come back.

I would suggest changing the bad O2 sensor ASAP. The mileage difference is significant, and every tank where you get 14MPG instead of 20MPG costs $$$

What about performance? Bad O2 sensors will hurt you gas mileage, but accleration too?
