Recommendations for rear seal repair

Hello,

My 1997 Maxima SE 5 spd with 110,000 is leaking oil from what I believe to be the rear main seal. The car is otherwise in great shape, so I’d like to repair the leak. If I understand what would be necessary to repair the leak correctly, I would probably get a new clutch at the same time.

Can anybody give me a mechanic recommendation in the Des Moines area? I’d also appreciate opinions on what would be a fair price for P&L.

Thanks,
Mike

The upper oil pan seals and gaskets may be causing the leak and may make it look like the rear main seal is causing the leak. The rear main seal rarely leak oil from what other members have said on here.

Indeed, I've never seen a VQ rear main leak, it's always been the upper oil pan gasket (well, the half moon seal between the pan and the RMS retainer).

fwiw, I just pulled my vq30 and the RMS had a VERY small leak. it seemed like it was a couple dribbles. and it was a 148k engine.
