Possessed Cassette Player

Here is another reason to get a fancy touch screen radio head unit thing, one day my cassette player suddenly started acting up and ever since then, every time the car is turned on I get serenaded with a sweet tune by my cassette player.

I cannot wait for the day that I can rip that crap out.

This happened to me too! I just raged at it and hit it a few times...then stuck a knife in it...then kicked it. Stopped after that. Not sure why it does that. Mine still does it just way quieter. If you have a solution let me know... Oh also, soon after it did that the display went out and only works about...3% of the time I'm driving.

Yeah after about a month of hearing that daily, twice a day. I am ready to send it back to 1997.

Probably going to have a new system installed. Or steal one from a Pathfinder. I read that for certain years its a direct swap.

Then I can take a hammer to that cassette player and SMASH THE IMAGINARY CASSETTE LOVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF IT!

It looks like the loading mechanism is trying to load a cassette. Try feed him one if it's satisfied.

I had the same thought, but I think the OP is wanting an upgraded anyways.

Sometimes if you have the "Bose curse", it is just easier to keep it factory vs a complete rewire or having to buy the adapter.

I need to rewire all mine for the sound/speakers I want.

Touch screen dream, OP?

Are you aware of these? You could sacrify these:
- face is too boring bland if it is not powered up.
- under daylight, the 'static' touch screen offers no details, no textures, no buttons, no colors. You are looking at a blank grey screen. If you like less clustered console, then this could be a plus.
- Virtual touch button offers no feel, no finger feedback.
- Different lighting color/intensity at night could be a turnoff.
- Bootup time is usually long.
- Cheap HU means crappy circuitry.

Did not mean to wander away from the topic.

Kill it with fire. Now.

btw nice key fob.

And as far as touch screens go, do research and try different ones out (in stores). I got the kenwood ddx318 last year and it has been reliable and awesome. I got it because of the fast boot time and lightning quick touch response, along with very in-depth tuning. (speaker sizes, locations, directions, polarity, etc) Just do your research.. They usually offer more options with a touch screen. I do wish it had more buttons but meh whatever

sounds like a little jealousy to me, your telling me you'd rather have a blose stereo 15+ plus years old or more than a newer touch screen? ha!!! i have the avhp 2400 bt with sirius and bluetooth, am/fm/, cd, ipod, and dvd. and the movies are awesome as mine has the sound enhancement "divix" built in to increase sound for the movies. i honestly hated the blose system as it was allready 10 years old when i got it. it was ok, but nothing like the new setup i got now with a 600 watt 5 channel alpine amp and 6.5 jl's all around rms'ed out to 135. i'm deaf and loving every minute of it!!!!

Yeah i had a cassette with a wire to hook into an ipod, so I just stuck one in there. It still spits it out and then goes back in by itself. But its less noisy, so good enough for me lol.

And yes, I am also planning on a touch screen. The negatives that were mentioned, are actually positives to me. I want a clean look, fancy colors, no feedback, (heck I am typing this message with an Ipad right now) and a boring face.

But the only thing stopping me is where I live. I know for a fact people break in to steal radios all the time. So i have to decide between that and risk a break in or a OEM replacement. Ugghhhh

Oh and thank you for the suggestions everyone!

A funny thing about having a possessed cassette player is that its a great conversation starter haha. The guy who installed my alarm said he nearly crapped himself when he was working under the dash and suddenly heard that clang clang clang sound. And i was taking a lady friend to work one day and left her in the car while I filled up gas and the cassette suddenly started going in and out by itself, she freaked out a bit. I guess most people dont see cassette players nowadays let alone one that does its own thing whenever it wants lol

I consider myself a cassette connoisseur. Nakmichi Dragon, 3 heads, dual capstans, Metal Tape, TDK, Maxell. BASF true chromium dioxide tapes with the lowest noise floor, even lower than metal. Reel to Reels (OK NOT cassette but the best ever tape medium EVERY BY FAR)

Cassette has had its day. The sun has set. Let it go man. Let it go. The cassette is DONE.

And, if you have cassettes that are precious to you, there are easy ways to digitize them. Convert them to MP3 or burn a CD. No loss in fidelity, and probably a fidelity improvement because CD/MP3 playback is FAR more accurate and clear than a Nakamichi tape deck on its best day.

Anyone remmber the TDK MA-R? That thing was SEX;

This happened to me everyday someone got in the car. "Uh, what's that noise?" "Cassette player"..."What's that?" /facepalm

It is however really funny when people are looking for something and it suddenly just goes off.
