Suspension Questions
Suspension Questions
So guys, I have a few questions. I'm sure they've been answered before, but I'm having a hell of a time finding what I am looking for.
As for now, I have Tokico HP struts for the rear. I'm going to drop on Progress springs.
I'm just trying to figure out what to put for struts in the front. My current struts are stock and they are not blown, is it even worth it to replace them? I've heard they handle the Progress drop just fine.
If not, what should I replace them with?
I can find Tokico HP struts for roughly 120/ea, or KYB AGX for 130/ea off of Cattman's website.
I KNOW I KNOW - The AGXs are adjustable - however, this does not make them a superior strut to me. I want to know what will ride better in general, and what will last longer. Adjustability is not that important to me, but if they are a superior strut I would be willing to pay $20 more for the AGXs.
A sidenote - I live in Wisconsin where our winters often consist of several days of temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below 0. If what I've heard about the cold factor with KYB struts is true, somebody chime in and let me know if it's bearable.
Thank you in advance to anybody who replies..!

Good to see another Wisconsin member here. If i were you I would just replace my front struts as well just to be safe. Like they say do it rite the first time around so you don't have to do it again. I've heard good and bad stories about kyb's but never have personally experienced myself but for tokico's I've heard nothing but good stories.

A member in Colorado hated the AGX in the cold. Take that for what it's worth.
I'm rocking Tokico Illuminas all around. Could have gotten blues for the back and saved some money though. Do NOT keep your stock struts. Replace them. Be sure and get new OEM dust boots, and moog front strut mounts (K9786 - including bearing) as well.

The KYB's are stiffer then the Tokico Blues so you'll be a little mis-matched.
I would get the Blues for the front to match the rears.
You'll have a more compliant ride going that route.
OR
Get the KYB GR2 (or what ever they're called now) all around and have a nice firm ride all around.

I'll get the blues for the front then as well. Good call on the dust boots and mounts though, I've been trying to figure out if I can skimp out on them to save money (I'm very frugal), and I appreciate the link! It's going to save me so much confusion

Im from northern milwaukee so not to far from you. I've only been lucky enough to find an i30 and 1 maxima so far at the local junk yard. I think your best bet for junkyard maximas is around milwaukee or chicago.
The worst part about having such a reliable car is that people have no need to scrap them!
