Cassette Player Help

I was listening to a cassette (I know, old school) the other day in my 1999 Maxi and it was working fine. Got out the car, went into the store, came back, started the car, and now the cassette won't play or come out. It says TAPE ERR on the screen. Is there any way to get it out without having to change the whole system?

My CD player doesn't work and my radio is kinda ****ty since the antenna doesn't go up or down. Just a side note.

Taking it for granted its a bose?

I would have to say most people on here will tell u to get a new H/U, from what ive found on the .org it can be done with a special harness that allows you to keep your bose speakers...but like i said im only telling you what ive read on here cuz i have no experience myself.....im sure you will get lots of replys (well from the people who are not sick of discussing this topic)i myself have the stock bose system and so far everything works fine except the display (it comes and goes) but i believe mine only still works fine because i bought my 98 gle from an 80y/o lady who never put a tape or cd in it...so thats a good thing!! i hope mine lasts! im really not into thumping systems and the bose suits my purpose!
If you search the topic you will find the problem you have is common with bose! (so is my problem with the display)

See, the thing about it is, it's not a Bose it doesn't say anything on it but it looks like a Bose, although I have head my share of stories about those H/Us. I'm gonna look around and see if I can get an idea on how to take it out. I started using the cassette because the CD player would read the CD for 15 to 30 seconds and out it would come with the ERR message on it. I can't get good reception with the radio cuz the antenna died, I think.
And when I finally thought I would have some decent music, the tape player won't work.

I'm not sure you'll be able to get the stuck tape out with the deck still in the car. You may just have to pull the deck, put it on your workbench, and take the deck apart to extract the tape. FWIW, it's fairly easy to do.

Like stated above. If you want to get the tape, pull the head unit out and release the tape. Get a new head unit in while you are at it. Unless you really want tape player. Then find similar head unit to replace yours.

Once you get the screws out at the bottom of the radio (and remove the ashtray), push up gently and pull out slightly on the radio. This will lift the ac vents and the panel with the hazard button and defroster button. Remove the ac vents/panel as one assembly. Piece of cake.

Thanks y'all. I think that i'll just replace the whole thing. I saw some on ebay, but I don't want to buy it and be in the same situation i'm in now, no cd, no tape, and a sucky radio.

I would get an aftermarket one, but I don't like putting things in my car that aren't original.

It's just stuck there and says Tape Err? That actually happens with my stereo system all the time lol. Usually when I turn off/on the car it pops right back out, or I just wait a bit til I press eject or the Tape play button and it will pop out.

When you try and play the tape, with it still currently stuck in, does it make an "engaging/disengaging" sound for ~2s intervals?

Yeah that's what i'm thinking it is. My speakers don't say Bose on them either so i'm assuming it's a Clarion.

I was reading another post and the person said try moving it around (top to bottom and sideways) with a screwdriver. I did that and nothing. The only sound I heard was a faint clicking sound when pressing the eject button. Besides that, no F.FWD/RWD sound, no music, no ejecting sound, nothing. Just that faint click sound when pressing the eject button.

c'mon man, it's 2013. go get a used alpine or a basic sony, etc. you'll have cd and am/fm but get rid of the crappy blose system. i liked my stock stereo too when i first got it, but if you heard my system now you'd wonder why i ever kept the old setup as long as i did. gl

I appreciate good audio just like the next guy. IMHO, I think the stock system (Bose anyway) sounds pretty darn good for what it is.

Yeah you really want a new head unit. You can get one that will allow you to stream from your phone. Or that will allow you to attach a usb stick with all kinds of music on it.

I got a relatively inexpensive clarion and can tell you, it sounds head and shoulders better than the bose. "No highs, no lows, must be bose."

One thing to look out for is the display. I almost cannot see the clarion display in the daylight. It sucks that bad.
