Nigel, Definaley let me know when its done, I really want to come check it out. You are making me want to buy a 5-speed Maxi and make it into a track car, gutted etc., and that might just have to happen

Hehe! I thought you were done with maximas when I last talked to you! you could do a Tranny swap on your current max. I could help you out with that! I'll mail you when it's done completely. I have cancelled my business trip now . My wife ended up in hospital so I can't really go anywhere.

What I really want to see is the piping from the turbo to the TB, that is gonna be something. Anyway, that is some really detailed steps your going through. Cant wait to see some video of the tires lite up!

yeah it's probably a good idea to take a video of the next dyno! . You're right about the other piping, it's going to be complex! We think we've figured ot out though. It's getting really busy in the engine bay now!

I was done with them, but now that you are saying its possible to pull over 300 hp, granted thats over 7 PSI probably, but hey its all good. Nice Sorry about your wife, hope she gets better soon.

hey just had an idea

if the oil return line is so high, cant we relocate the return through the dipstick (ya i know it depends on the amount of oil flowing through)? That way we can reduce install time by bypassing the need for drilling an oil return line. just a suggestion on trying to reduce costs weather it be in parts or labor.

Why should I have problems at 7 psi when the Supercharger guys are running up to 12? by the way I am running intercooled, the S/C guys are not as far as I know.

Hey Tilley, are you going to pull the whole engine out to swap internals or do you think it is possible to swap pistons, rods etc still in the bay? I don't have an engine crane. I will be doing the internals when I got some more $$$ and time.

Kirk, 300 HP is actually a little optimistic for 7 psi. At 10 I think there is a good chance! Anyone know what the S/C guys get running at 11-12 psi? We can add a bit to that for efficiency.

it is possible as with anyting

just not very likely. I;d find it downright near impossible. Just rent a cherry picker (kragen used to rent them) and working on your motor will become 10X as easy. i'd rather save my back...not my wallet of 50 bucks.

I know, but I was saying if you can pull 300+ with around 9-10 or so then 15-17 should throw down some major #'s. Thats closer to what I want....maybe even run a 20G with 22PSI on a built engine....MMMMM....that'd be niiiiice

Sorry to tell you ut yu gotta pll the motor to swap everything. You dont need a engine houst just a hydralic lift and lift the car over the motor its pretty easy that way it only took me 4 hrs to have motor and trans on the floor.

Hehe! Wish I had a hyraulic lift! I will probably just rent or buy an engine crane. Can buy one for $200. $50 for rental is not too bad, but depends on how long I need it for. Anyway, need to build up the dollars again, so it'll be a while. How much was it for the DET motor again?

I had an off the wall idea yesterday. Would it be possible to run diesel pistons (maybe rods ... unless they are longer) in our Maxes? Don't think there are any, but if there were, it might be cool! Diesels run at very high compression. The pistons and rods would be really strong! Anyway, that's just a dream, so don't flame me!

Nice dream-I wonder how heavy those pistons are compared to the max's. Just order some rods/pistons for some aftermarket shop.

BTW just for your information you need to change your turbo position because your not supposed to have the drain side more than 20 degrees from facing the ground, my buddy works at a turbo shop and I aske today just to see and he told me that. BTW I just got a T04b with 3 hrs on it for $200, here are sme pics.

Hmm! You could be right! I will check it out. He probably said it because of coking problems? This would be bad news.

Thanks! Any other comments?

Thanks a lot for the offer but I got a turbo already! I checked out what you said about 20 degrees. Actually, they can go to 30 degrees, but you were absolutely right overall. I will either plumb into the upper oil pan or clock the turbo the right way and add an oil pump to pump back up to the cam cover. Either way I want it done right!

Nigel, do you think you'll have it all done by thursday? I'd like to come up there and meet you and see how it looks. I have a friend at CSU I'd also like to visit. Maybe we can all go to dinner or something. Let me know if this is cool with you or not.

Ummm have you not followed Matthel (Turbo95Max) progress?? Arias makes pistons. I am told Crower makes rods, and Ross also makes pistons for us?

Are they mass produced or custom order? I was told a while back that companies only custom made/ordered them for us so it was very expensive. Its good to hear that we are starting to get backing for our engines.

Sorry guys

My wife has made a turn for the worse. I've stopped working on this. My tuner should have it completed today or tomorrow, but I'll be at Saint Luke's down in Denver. My wife was flown there this morning. Don't know how long it'll be before she stabilizes.

I'll keep you posted.

As far as Arias and all the other stuff, yes I know about that, but would rather have "stock" parts that are made to handle turbos. Turbomax had a custom camshaft that snapped. So I would rather get DET stuff. Too bad it isn't cheaper to buy a used engine than to buy the custom pistons.

Bye for now

Thanks for all the well wishes guys! My wife is now more stable, she is still in hospital but at least she is stable.

As far as the Max goes, it's all done! The IC piping and everything is done now. I forgot to take my camera yesterday but it looks great (in my opinion)!

Anyway, they slapped on the piping and we fired it up on the dyno. We were going to do a Dyno on it. There is a funny sound from the Turbo under load. I had to leave before we really got into it. Hope there is good news today! If they have to replace the turbo, it'll probably be a long delay!

It's been close to three weeks now! It kind a sucks, but it wasn't really the shop's fault, rather their suppliers!

I'll keep you informed!

I don't think any of us can wait ... this will determine whether I do an SC or a custom Turbo. I'd actually really like to do 2 small turbos in an Audi-esque "bi-turbo" to decrease turbo lag I'm just not sure that can be done in our cars ...

OK

Everything is fine! We dynoed today! The results are as follows:

Pre turbo 176.0 HP 190.4 ft-lbs (I made a mistake saying it was 170 before)
Post turbo with boost .........

............ Drum roll please! ......

267.6 HP and 271.6 ft-lbs

..... get this only 4 psi of boost!

I badly need to change my exhaust to 3 inch stuff! Anyone know of any good 3" catback and cat combos? That's what I have got to get next. The exhaust is choking really badly at higher rpms around 4500 to 5000. Peak power is at about 5500, so if I got the highflow stuff, it should be at around 275-280 HP.

Lastly, I can get full boost at 3000 rpm! How's that for results? Don't know about you guys, but I am happy

I will try to find time to scan the dyno graph in and show you.
As far as kits go, I am trying to work on pricing with them. They will do intercooled and non-intercooled.

We are doing some finishing off, the BOV is not on yet and I need to paint a little where we cut holes to prevent rust and bolt the front end back on. It looks cool! Sorry no pics yet. In fact I will only email pics to interested individuals.

Watch out you Stangs!
