How would i know if I need new rotors?

Tomorrow im getting new brake pads in the front and its running me about $90 installed. The reason bieng is im hearing a rubbing or ticking noise, as if the sensor is telling me my brakes are low. I just hope i don't need new rotors cuz i can't afford them right now.

When applying your brakes...you may feel a surge like sensation. almost like your pumping your brakes. this is how i knoew it was time for new rotors.

Can't the roters be resurfaced at least once?

Yes they can be resurfaced a few times depending on the thickness of them. There is a minimum spec for the rotors. You can resurface them until you get to thin. If somebody on here has a factory service manual, please post the min. measurements of the front and rear rotors.

For $540 you can put high performance drilled rotors and Metal Axis pads with new SS Brake lines and Motul brake fluid. Get the kit from www.eatricezone.com

Save you 10 bucks and you wind up with much better brakes.

Just run your fingers along the rotors....and if they feel kinda uneven.....you should consider resurfacing

Folks....don't make this any more difficult than it needs to be. If the young man doesn't have the money to get the brakes done, then his best option is to do it himself. The front brake pads are very easily changed, and while doing it he can just pull the rotors off and take them to the local shop to have them turned. They may charge like $10-20 a piece to do it and he comes back and puts them on. Lifetime pads from auto parts are usually about $25 and the whole job can be done without much effort for around $75 at most. The brake shop is going to try and make their money by telling him his rotors suck, his calipers suck, and his brake pads suck, that's their job to make money. Unless he has serious brake problems, i.e. bad calipers or completely shot rotors, this is not a real big project. A floor jack, towers, and an hour or two and the job is done and better yet probably better than if you pay someone to do it. If your in GA, let me know and you can come over to the house and I'll help ya. Good luck.

What are lifetime pads? Is that a specific brand?

Not a specific brand, just call your local auto parts store and get a price for pads for the the car. If they are offered, they will ask you if you want cheapo pads for like $10 or the lifetime ones for $25. I had good experience from an auto parts store called AutoZone here in GA. I bought lifetime pads for another car I had. I have not paid for a set of pads for that car since 1999. I just take them the pads in the box, the worn out ones, and they go to the shelf and hand me a new set and I go home and put on the new ones. Not a penny charged. That sometimes is rare because most "lifetime" warranties have a lot of fine print B.S. so beware.
