cali spec and 00vi swap

So I have started contemplating the 00vi swap on my car. I read doing it with all 5th gen parts is the best way to go especially if you are going to tune it with a piggyback. Anyone out there running an 00vi in cali have problems with CEL's and/or not passing smog in california? I tried searching this but the 00vi topic on here just throws out soooooo much info that it is hard to pick through!!!

And theres not going to be any CEL's because you will be running all the sensors and items you need unless you're not going to run the egr valve. .

Im in the process of gathering parts for my 00vi swap into my 99 cali, from what i understand if everything is done proper and you dont take shortcuts by deleting things like the EGR (this especially as deleting the egr will make passing smog harder)then you shouldnt have any codes.

As far as smog, youre going to need a tune so you wont be running so rich. Youll need a piggyback (ill be using a VAFC2) and either a wideband o2 if you plan on street tuning or access to a dyno shop. Once its tuned proper i believe itll be giving about the same amount of smog as your car gives off currently.

Alternativly if you go the 4th gen LIM and fuel rail route you probably wouldnt need a tune, but it most certainly would be beneficial.

It only runs rich in open loop.

So it will be running rich at startup/warmup and under heavy acceleration?

Namely heavy acceleration, it already runs rich at startup.

Sounds like were doing the opposite. I'm currently doing a 01 de-k swap into my 99... I'm in FL so not really worried about the emissions stuff I'm trying to eliminate all the cali sensors and stuff. GL with all the emissions goodness lol. Possibly you could find a shady shop to just write you off as pass?

If all the parts come from Cali cars, you don't delete anything like egr and it's tuned right, you shouldn't have any issues. Our emissions testing here in Texas is nowhere near as jacked as they are out there but I've seen the results from a couple of 00vi swap maxis here and the results show little difference in emissions. Hell, my stock 95 with over 224k still has lower emissions than a lot of the newer cars. It's all about keeping it tuned and maintained.

Your only options regarding this would be to have your car tuned, or, to use the a32 lim and fuel rail.

From what ive read however, swapping an 00vi and not tuning results in mediocre gains.

Guess ill have to tune the car, or find another cali spec lower manifold and take it to the machine shop and make new holes and threads...
