Transmission Vent Hose Leak

Why is oil coming out of my 5-spd manual trans vent hose? I haven't added any for years. It's dripping onto the top of the air intake snorkel...wtf?

That doesn't make much sense... Are you 100% positive it's gear oil and not condensation or something? It would have to be ridiculously over filled to come out of the vent hose.

I know right? I've pulled the hose and it's clear. I blew into the hose and felt the trans case pressurize and "puff" of air out when I quite. Can't figure it out!

I've dealt with this before, on an auto but same principal.

Check your fluid first and foremost, make sure it's not overfilled and check for color and smell, see if the fluid is dark/burnt. That should give you an idea.

Most likely reasons for this to happen is too much fluid, or fluid getting too hot and expanding. Check your tranny cooler lines.

Thanks guys...I'll pull the fill plug and check the level tonight. Maybe go ahead and change it as I have prolly 60k on the fill of MT-90.

You "felt" the trans case pressurize? I didn't know that it would expand and contract enough to be felt with a breath of air. You must have the extra light weight JDM go fast weight reducing rare 5 speed in that car of yours...

2000 Maxima SE / 5-spd manual . Just had Import Direct axles/Timken seals installed. Drove home, 6 miles from shop. I looked under vehicle 1 hr later. 8 oz of perfectly clean 70W90 was on floor beneath transmission.....Guess shop overfilled!
