thinking about a exhaust upgrade
thinking about a exhaust upgrade
i have a 98 gle comletely stock and i hav read on the .org about the best bang for the buck for a hp increase is an exhaust...now does that mean i have to put new exhaust manifolds and new evrything all the way back? now i have to keep in mind, i have to take it through emissions every 2 yrs so 02 sensors are a must as with a cat...does anyone know links where i can find everything i need to make a noticable hp increase? and if i do this what kind of increase are we talking bout 10- 15 hp?i know this has been discussed numerous times but i just cant find all the info that i need just by searching..thanks all!!
Pretty much just an aftermarket Y pipe. The rest of the exhaust isnt that restrictive. Put a new muffler on if you want the modified sound. Headers might give a little, but not much. The main cat isnt restrictive, and thats the one you need for emissions, so youre good there.

As long as the car is warmed up when you take your car for testing, it shouldn't be a problem. The precats only help when the car is cold. Many people on here have the aftermarket y, and pass emissions with flying colors. Hp increase depends on the car, and what else you do. I feel comfortable telling you to expect 8-10 whp. Some have gotten more with supporting modifications. I'm definitely no expert, because my max doesn't even have an aftermarket y, but all what I told you can be found here through the search function. So in future instances, use it. Haha. :P

I was thinking about calling the shop to see if they would extend the exhaust so I could skip the muffler, but idk...
(id see a doctor ,and maybe find a diferent girlfriend)ya im thinking bout doin it all myself, but i gotta look into it more, cuz even tho its in the stickies i have friends who differ in opinions on how much more hp would be , thats why i asked everyone says different things!
I come here to discuss 4th gens and learn because ive allways loved em....i personally dont care what the topics are ...i read all the posts! even threads that have been discussed numerous times....i just put my big boy pants on and dont complain! and i would think one wouldnt have so little to do as to read a thread just to sissy about it..............
