Dunlop SP Sport A2

I just got off the phone with a tire retailer.
He strongly urged me to stay away from this tire and to go with the Pirelli P6000 instead. He said these tires have been notoriously bad in the past and its too early to say whether they made any significant design fixes. Comments?

Actually his exact words were that no one has owned them long enough to put them to a true test. Do any of you guys have a set with a lot of miles on them.

I just laughed when I read that. Your tire dealer must make more $$$ on Perelli then Dunlop. I'm running the Sport A2 and love them. Very smooth and quiet ride. Handling is excellent. Straight line tracking is superb! Like the car is on rails on the highway.

Was up in Vermont last weekend and got caught in the snow storm that came up the coast. The Dunlops, although not really a snow tire, tracked perfectly through snow covered roads.

Do some research on Tirerack.com and read the feedback from people who are running them. You cannot find a negative comment anywhere about them. They get excellent reviews.

My advice: Call another dealer! What he is trying to saw is he makes 2x more $$$ selling the Pirellis. In my experience, the best source for tire reviews are individuals who own them. I'm running a set of D60 A2s which were the predecessor of the SP Sport A2 and I can tell you they are great. From I've been hearing the SP Sports are even better. This tire is best suited for sport/touring. The ride is quiet yet has the handling potential if needed and has a great wear factor. For all out performance go with the SP 5000 by this tire isn't as good in bad weather.

I've put just 2,000 miles on the new Sport A2's, which has included several rainstorms and 6 inches of unpaved snow and they did just fine. They're also fairly quiet and handle well. I notice the Sport A2 has a better treadwear rating and is slightly cheaper than the Pirelli P6000.

They do sound like great tires but 2000 miles is hardly a true test of the tires greatness!!

I have been considering this tire as well. I just want to hear what everyone's comments on the tire are. I have also been considering the Bridgestone Potenza RE950, anyone have any imput on those? I like the review they got, but would like to hear from some Maxima owners...

I'm also running the A2s on my max. They've got around 10,000 miles on them and they are good tires. I need to rotate them because I have less tred in front than in rear. I want something stickier, but they are a good buy. They ride quiet and smooth and have good handling, especially on the highway. just my .02

There's some good usage for ya Toffy. Take these comments back to your tire dealer and tell him to "HAVE A NICE DAY!"
